Y'know, this almost happened to me- my husband and I were in the process of moving. He'd already made one trip, and when he came back, he had this little dog (chihuahua?). On the way back, he'd stopped at a friend's home, and they were looking for a new home for him- all the other dogs in the house were a lot bigger than him, and were picking on him...

Anyway, I was not too happy about it- the surprise, at least. I didn't mind the dog- he was little, 5 years old, housebroken, etc.

In your case, where you actually DO want to get rid of the dog, I wouldn't suggest just getting rid of it while your husband is gone, but do call around, see if you can find a potential home for Rover... then talk to your husband- let him know that this was NOT a good idea. You plan to get rid of the dog

"And, Dear, much as I love you, next time you want to get a dog, you darn well better talk to me about it- BEFORE you get it, and you better have me with you when you get the dog!!"

Oh dear dear dear...I wouldn't recommend it if your spouse seemed really attracted to the dog. That'd lead to one major fight. I would suggest (after 25 years of a relationship where I try to bring home cats...) that you weigh your options. If you're allergic then you have legitimate grounds (or if your lease won't allow a dog etc....) to ask for this dog to have another home. If not, you should talk this over with your partner before making any move to relocate the dog. Good luck, Dearheart.

Looks like a big fight is coming up!

You may want to make inquiries about a home for the dog. But, I would wait until the spouse comes home to discuss the situation.

How would you feel if the situation were reversed?

Talk to your spouse about it. Come to an agreement that works for both of you. It may take some talking, but I bet the two of you could come up with something.

No you may not. Two wrongs do not make a right. Please tell your spouse that you are very upset that you weren't consulted about hin/her bringing home a dog and that you would like the dog returned as soon as possible.

tahts a bloody good idea, although how would you tell your partner where the dog is? I would probably tell him he wasnt chipped so the dog catcher took him away
or he got ran over ringing first before u get rid of the dog.

NEVER, That's Just Wrong! Unless your face swells up like a soccer ball from allergies, I'd say no.
