Do a lot of research! Get a dog that fits your lifestyle. Are you home a lot? Do you like to walk? Don't focus so much on what dog is "cute" but what breed of dog will work out for you. A lot of small dogs require a lot of excersize, such as min pins, jack russells, and itallian greyhounds. Do you want a dog that you might have to spend an hour a day brushing or a short haired dog? Do you want a dog that sheds or do you have allergies? Go to your shelter, pet store, searchthe web, and talk to breeders to find what breeds work for you! Good Luck!

Jack Russels are really cute, but high energy dogs and love to play. There are so many different kinds of dogs. You should research different breeds to see what kind will fit you. Not every dog is right for every person. There are high energy pups, quiet dogs, some that bark alot, etc... You need to find the right type for your needs. I included a helpful link. Good luck on the new puppy!

Cute dogs that don't get too big...well, there's the Maltese, but they do need quite a bit of grooming. Dachsunds, both long haired and short haired are great companions, but need regular exercise. Australian Terriers are extremely loyal and hilarious to watch, but can be hyper. Peek-a-Poos are a lot of fun, and easily trainable, they need regular grooming. Basenji's get to be about 20-25 pounds, aren't too reliable with children, and tend to gravitate to just one person, but they are good watch dogs and love to cuddle. I hope these give you some ideas. I always reccomend going to an animal shelter or animal rescue for a dog, that way you aren't supporting the overpopulation. You don't necessarily need a pure bred to have a cute, small dog. Good luck!

Maltese are extremly cute (if you don't mind shedding)
Miniature Poodles (if you get the right kind they can be really cute, I have one and she's adorable)
Pomeranians (dunno how to spell that)
Bichon Frise (Cute Poofy Dogs)
Yorkshire Terriers (Cutest dogs ever)
Shih-Tzu (pretty cute, not my top pick)
Chiuahuahua (They are cute!)
Those are a list of alot of cute dogs. Dog books have more information if u go to a library. It's best to research what kind of dog you want. Some dogs might not be fit for you some dogs might. Books about dogs and breeds at the Library usually describe the characteristics of each dog so you have an easier time picking one out for yourself. (I'd go with the poodle or the terrier)

shi tzus are absolutley adorable! They can fit in your cupped hands when they are babies, and if they are very active, they will only weigh about10-12 lbs at adulthood. Mind you, if you keep their hair long, then they need to be groomed about every month or two, and brushed in between. They have the sweetest faces and quite a personality..... but beware! when they get a little older they may be yapping machines! (My little dog started being yappy at about 6 months, we had he out of it by the time she was 2) I hope if you do consider a shitzu, you read up on proper care, first. And a bonus: no dog hair all over the carpets because they don't shed!

Try a wire-haired fox terrier . It is a miniature airedale terrier , which arguably is one of the finest , most loyal and independent dogs you could own . The fox terrier is very similar to a jack russell , which is very popular these days (to give you an idea of the size) and is a sagacious and absolutely wonderful animal . You'll never forget the dog after owning one and it will earn a place in your heart . Good luck .

cocapoo's are a breed of cocker spaniel and poodle. I have had a male cocapoo for 3 years and he is great. He weighs about 20-25 lbs. The breed doesn't shed and they are usually good natured and good with kids. Not to mention they are really cute! I got Cosmo(my dog) from a breeder in New Jersey

Shih-tzus (pronounced shee-tzu) are great dogs to have. They train easily and they don't shed at all, so there's nothing to clean up on a daily basis (except in the backyard lol). They live for about 11-13 years, and they reach a maximum of about 14 lbs. They're pretty expensive, though.
