The concept of the devil was absorbed into Christianity from Greek mythology and Paganism (Peasentism) as the horned God of the animals in the latter and Pan in the former, the concept is of anyone or anything opposed to God, hence the term Satan which translates as adversary.
There is no devil in the literal sense, no-one can seriously oppose God, God is absolute. However there can most certainly be a devilish mentality or a devilish activity, which we ourselves are responsible for, which separates us from God and the Spiritual platform, as much as some would like to abdicate responsibility onto the devil.
To understand things as they are write to this address and order one copy of the Bhagavad Gita As It Is translated from Sanskrit into English by HDG A C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, this knowledge will liberate your intelligence back to the Spiritual platform. :-Sriman Sankarshan Das Adhikari (sda@backtohome.com)

Every human being has the capability of great good & great evil.
A trait inherited by our creator/creatrix.
The "Devil" so to speak, is in the mind, and is only brought forth when we give it power. We do this if we 'acknowledge' it when we have done something 'evil' or wrong.
Absolute evil is a personal interpretation. It's real, if you make it real.
The only religion that believes in 'Satan' is Christianity. Thus, they give him/it power.
If you were to bring up a child & never teach them about 'Satan', there would be no power given to that entity by this particular individual.
Now, this doesn't mean that the child would never do anything wrong, it just means that the child would not blame theirs actions on an outside 'entity' or give power to the being of 'Satan'.
It would make the child take resposibility for their own actions and admit that they have made a mistake in judgement or admit that they knew that they were doing something wrong.
As human beings, we must stop blaming this entity of Satan for things that we choose to do that are wrong. We should just correct the behavior & move on to become better people.

I'd say that, if it's anywhere, that's where it is. The enemy is inside- that's free will, the bad side of free will. When you do a bad thing, you want to blame it on the devil, but you only really can blame yourself... assuming you're compos mentis... but then, these days, who amongst us can claim to be this way? Next thing it'll be the devil in my liver, under my ingrowing toenails, in the mouths of your dratted crocodiles... they've not got me yet though, I climbed a palm tree the moment I saw it had you in it's jaws... wish I could help you out man, but it'd be insanity to leave this tree now, there are crocs everywhere. Brrrr....

It is true, the devil is inside the brain. Because all of us, understand the meaning of that word. Our language, whatever it is, is in our brains, and we associate all the bad and worst things with the devil. Although the word "devil" came from one religion, the meaning is the same in most of them. We have a different perception to the world because of language, its meanings and our perceptions. We are Humans, it's true, and we must know the meaning of that too, but the education and circumstances are different, so we can look bad things in TV, but the people in TV should been looking necessary things. The devil is in the brain, and we can recognize it because of that.

He's there if you want him too. He's a figment of our imagination and we can make him real by thinking insanly with superstitions! God on the other hand, few really even know him. Those who claim to believe in him probably don't even know him. He's practically the cosmos, but many have taken him as a personal being. Maybe the cosmos is a being and isn't supernatural because his laws of nature never change....on the other hand, there are loopholes!

The Devil is real, and works in the Spiritual Realm that
you can tap into. He is the Prince of the World until Christ
comes again and raptures His people out of all this. If you
think on dark, evil, mean, underhanded, and sordid thoughts,
you've tuned into the Devil's territory, and I would highly
suggest against that,as how you think, is how your life will
be lived. It would behoove us all to want to live in the light
with good things happening in our lives and blessings while
we're here on Earth. (get behind me Satan means don't give
him an inch or he'll take a foot).

It is soooo easy to blame our behaviour (good or bad) on an "outside" force. People are fully capable of either extreme. The only thing humans seem to have a problem with is taking responsibility for their actions(or lack thereof).

Why are all of the questions in spirituality so weird and lack any real sequence.I'm going back to diet and fitness where the biggest problem is usually the spelling of lose instead of loose.

no when God threw iblis out, all the devil wanted was a small place in each and every humans heart. and the devil is right thare playing the strategy of - divide and rule.
now u would wonder why God gave the devil wat he wished for. remeber the devil was a jinn (made from fire) and even he was one of the most loyal servants of God, until the day God ssked all the angels to prostrate before Adam(pbuh) but the devil's ego got him in the way.
