If you want a dog that doesn't bark much, I would not recommend a beagle. This dog, originally bred to hunt rabbit, has a yodel used to notify the hunter he has found game. Unfortunately, they bark frequently in non-hunting settings and as are all hounds--notorious runners! They have a sweet disposition but dealing with the barking, shedding and running can be too much for some owners.

All dogs bark. It's their way of communicating and also letting you know that something or someone shouldn't be around your house.

Beagles are very active and they are a good family pet. But they are also very smart and protective of their owner and family. Beagles are used as a working dog for airports and even at the police. They are very intelligent, so if you want a beagle, I would highly recommend it. You can train a Beagle not to bark a lot. They listen really well and learn quickly too.

I always wanted a Beagle.. so, if you want one, go ahead =)!

Well, if your looking for a puppy that doesn't bark, you won't probably find one. All puppies love to chew, bite a little, and bark. I've had a beagle and haven't had good experiance with it so I'd say go with a Jack Russell Terrior...they are about the same size.

Beagles are very sweet and cute dogs but they do bark a lot and they need tons of excersize. They can be easily cared for. They bark a lot when they are left alone but this can be trained. They have a very good scent. And if you ever get one,my word of advice, is to have a collar with a name tag or a device that can track the dog because they can get lost easily because they love to run.Good luck with your beagle!!

We have two of them and they don't bark a lot.
They do however BAY. It's loud and really kind of funny to watch them do it, but it doesn't usually last all that long. 40 seconds is the longest I've heard them do it.
Any dog will bark. Any dog will chew. And beagles aren't all that different from any other dog.

Our neighbor has a beagle and that dog barks at EVERYTHING!
We also had a beagle years ago, and though he didn't bark too much, he was the worst shedder, and beagles tend to have a musky odor because they are hounds.

Beagles bark and howl ALOT . They are meant to track prey and that is how they communicate.Yes they are cute but you really need to do a little more research on the breed

No, get a basinji. No bark, no dander, no sheding, and only a little taller than a beagle. Beagles are hounds. The howl. They also smell.

beagles are hyper dogs, so unless given a lot of excercise your puppy will bark a lot.
