Here is what you can expect tomorrow:

First, the dentist will numb the area around the tooth to be worked on with a local anesthetic. Next, a drill will be used to remove the decayed area. After your dentist has removed the decay and cleaned the area, the tooth-colored material is applied in layers. Next, a special light that "cures" or hardens each layer is applied. Finally, your dentist will shape and polish the final restoration.

Not every time the dentist will give anesthesia to numb you. If the decay and drilling area is small and at the top of the tooth, the dentist will just remove the decay with any anesthesia assuming you don't feel any pain.

If the dentist decide to numb you, be brave and relax... you will just feel a pitch and don't.. don't.. don't look at the needle...most of time, you won't even feel a thing!

It depends on where the cavity is, and how deep it is. Odds are, if you intend to have local anesthesia, you will have to get a shot either in your gum, the nerve, or your upper/lower palate. Not to worry though, if you have never had a cavity before getting the local anesthesia shot feels like a small pinch and then pressure as the elixir is injected into your "problem" area...

Yes, near the gum line. The dentist pinches a little bit of the inside of your mouth near the gum line & sticks the novacaine there to numb your gum.

Yes they do, but it is an extremely tiny needle. You probably won't even feel it and if you do it just feels like a little pinch...it doesn't hurt at all! good luck :)

If it's just a tiny superficial cavity, he won't need to. But usually, yes, you get the needle.
