Go along with them and be on for a little bit before you pull the phone away from your mouth a bit to ask someone (whom isnt there) "did you get the trace yet?" (dont laugh) "hurry before they hang up"

Do not hang up. Do not talk to them. Just put the phone down and go away for 3-4 minutes. After a while, go back and hang up the phone. If you do not hang up, they think that you are listening. When you do not react, they will get bored and stop calling.

It depends on what time it is and what is going on. The last prank call I got was at midnight after being up until about 11:45 with a screaming baby that I just got to sleep. I wasn't really thrilled about the phone ringing. I didn't get a chance to say so though, they just screamed out their little "funny" saying, shrieked in the phone and hung up.

It depends on how prank that call is. Sometimes I played a long, but most of times, l let the answer machine take over

If you play along with them, that's exactly what they want. You are rewarding their negative behavior. Hang up and go back to what you were doing, don't waste your life on foolishness.
If the calls are obscene, inform your local police office.
Also think about getting Caller I.D. and only answer numbers that you recognize.

Its more fun to play along and see how long they will keep it up--always be the more persistent one, even if you are supposed to be the one getting pranked--very fun. lol

I act as though I can't hear them. I keep saying "huh" or "what". Then they hang up on me.
