A house cat is in it's environment in your house. A field cat usually has a much heavier head, some people call them "mousing cats". They will usually be around barns, or out in the fields. You won't see them in the woods, because they simply won't let you. Cats are very smart that way. If they need something though, they will climb your screen door and meow super loud until they get it.

There was a program on PBS a couple years ago about how cats turned feral. A study was done on about 50 cats that lived in a barn on a farm in England. The cats reverted back to their "wild days." The male cats attacked and killed kittens so that the females who go into heat sooner and have the male's offspring. Things like that. They also found cats that lived on ocean beaches and rocks and were just barely surviving.
Unfortunately, you can go to any town or city and see many cats who have been abandoned or offspring from cats that have not been spayed or neutered. It is really pathetic to see these creatures have to fend for themselves in the heat of summer and the cold of winter...left to eat scraps out of garbage cans and what prey they can catch. It breaks your heart.
Watch Animal Cops on The Animal Planet TV channel if you feel like crying. There you can see many animals that have been abandoned or mistreated and have to resort to their "wild" ways in order to survive. It's not pleasant. I don't want to talk about it anymore...I have to go and hug my cats.

um house cats are just that - house cats
the reason some people see them around is because either they ran away or they're just outdoor cats - sometimes those cats will meet others and have kittens - if those kittens aren't known about they become wild and what is know as a ferral cat

Domestic house cats are not a wild species. They were developed from wild cats, but being "Domestic", they are no longer wild. Ferral cats revert to a wild state, but are still considered domestic.

They're everywhere...I live near the beach and we have "beach cats". They are the offspring of wild house cats. If you live in the city you've probably seen the "alley cats". Those cats are the offspring of, or were once house cats themselves.

you can find them in there natural habitat in a house.
that's because if you have a "house cat" it means that you keep it in the house and that is why it is called a house cat. if it is outside the it is called a wild cat, if you have a cat that goes outside it is a outdoor cat.
