Hi I'm a 21 year old NYU student who plans on being celibate (virgin) his whole life. This is not for religious (I'm an agnostic) or physical reasons (I'm a perfectly healthy smart male). I find myself to be a much powerful person mentally when I supress strong sexual desires and am closer to purity.
I plan on having children, by cloning, in 20 years when I'm around 40. Hopefully cloning will be available in 20 years - but I doubt that it will be available in this country. It will probably be available in China because they seem to be the most technologically and ethically progressive. I just dont understand why people have such a problem with cloning. Like I said Im an agnostic so religious reasons do not apply to me at all. When do you think this technology will become available? I think it can be considered important for someone to pass their own genes onto the next generation - therefore I would not adopt. I'd want my kid to have the same genetic structure as me. What can I do?

I should clarify that I dont think I'd want to mix my genes with any other persons - If I had a child with another person - I only think that would make my child worse. My child should be 100% genetically me. I have a measured I.Q. of 145 and I dont want that number to go down with subsequent generations by mixing with other peoples genes.

I cant see how me wanting to raise my very own child could be considered selfish. I do want to have a child one day - just not with anyone else. It seems completely unfair that I couldnt have a child just because I wont be dating or will be having sex.

I do not think this technology will be available for at least the next 50 years. There will be many problems that will need to be worked out with it and it will take a LONG time.
An alternative would be to have your sperm used for artificial insemination.

Even if cloning were possible and legal by the time you want kids, I don't think it's a great idea, because they have not managed to clone a single organism yet and have it live a normal healthy life.
At the genetic level, you DNA has these chains of molecules at the end of each strand which get progressively shorter each time they are replicated to form a new cell. When these chains of 'rubbish' DNA are all gone, the body starts to break down and you die. Scientists are not sure how this process works, but it is the reason that clones have short lifespans, as their DNA chains are only as long as yours at that point of your life, and the clone would probably die sooner than you. When a baby is formed naturally, there is some process within recombination of genes that lengthens the 'rubbish' DNA, giving the child a normal lifespan.
So even if this were a good idea and possible, you would be creating an unhealthy, short-lived version of yourself who would probably resent you for bringing him into the world to live an unhappy life.

The problem people have with cloning is "where does the soul come from?". Perhaps it will be a soulless creation? No organized religion can accept the ramifications of such a creation. China gets its technology through reverse engineering, so they wont be cloning anything, until a western country comes up with the technology.

Cloning isn't creation...it's cloning. You wouldn't be passing on your genes...bonehead...you would be duplicating them. The problem with cloning is, in your case, it would mean more exactly like you. Religious or not the whole purpose of children is see the circle of life not the duplication of life and who is going to raise these children? Or these duplicate "you"s? I don't see marriage in your future and you will have to work to support them unless you get Rosie the Robot to do it. Find another way dude! Fall in love and make babies the old fashioned way, once you have kids...however you do it...your powerful mentality and purity go out the window. It's hard to be so full of yourself after you've changed a million diapers, been pooped, peed, and spit up on after about 6 months of no sleep.

rethink your priorities. You sound pretty selfish to raise a child. Dolly had a lot of genetic issues...as do other cloned animals. People are that much more difficult to clone. If you want to pass on your genes, and be a virgin...why not donate to a sperm bank?
I imagine once or twice in a cup won't surpress this amazing intellect and power you think you have.

Hey if you can do it ,then try all the power to you.
If you can find a woman that you trust and she is OK with the situation then masturbate give the doc your sperm and have your child ,you will still be a virgin.
And just so people under stand a (agnostic) is that you believe there is something out there but you do not believe in god, I know cuz I'm an agnostic as well.

The first thing you need to do is get your ego in check. Narcissistic personality disorder mean anything to you? Or for that matter, any of the "Dramatic" personality disorders Use that 145 I.Q. to get a handle on yourself.

I don't think cloning should be used at all. It is not moral. I can only see it being used to cure a disease but never for a personal reason like yours!

You could actually spread your seed in several different ways:
-Donate as much sperm as possible. You would not know these kids, but your genetics would live on.
-Find a woman that will be a surogate mother. Go to the doctor, and have her eggs combined with your seed.
-Wait for cloning.
