LA County does not allow overnight camping on any of its beaches, so you'll either have to go north to Ventura County or South to Orange County. To the north, I'd recommend Leo Carrillo State Beach, and to the south, Doheny State Beach is very nice. They should both be within an hour's drive. Check out the web sites below for more information. Oh, and you'll need reservations at peak times, so check it out as early as possible. Have fun!

It's been a long time since I've been there, but Carpinteria is the closest overnight, camping on the beach that I have visited.
I have also heard that they may have camping on Catalina, but it's a pain to take a tent on the boat...

The go out is one mile above the 33 ojai street , while you're heading north from L.A. Forgive me for not understanding the superb suited go out.
