I am leaving from New Orleans tomorrow traveling to Manchester, UK. Do I need to plan on packing/checking my purse and bringing my stuff in a plastic bag? Everything I have read about the plastic bag is only for flights originating in the U.K. Also, can I bring a book to read?

From what I understand, you may take your purse and book with you. However, if you have any liquids (lotion, soap, contact solution, or any other liquid at all) in your purse, they will be confiscated - best to leave them at home. Your purse (and anything else you have with you) will be very thoroughly searched.

Also, plan on a LOT of extra time - not only will airport security be searching you, they'll be searching every other airline passenger -- and overseas flights take a longer time to check in for anyway.

Have a great trip, and stay safe.
