both the US Power Squadron and the Coast Guard Axillary offer wonderful nearly free introduction to boating courses in your area, with wealth of local knowledge......probably a million people have learned how to operate boats from these guys and gals.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

I have a boat, I know I go to the state websites they give plenty of info as far as prices for ramp use and campsite use. Also talk to friends and neighbors and find which lakes they like and why. After you start going you will find what you like.

find someone that is boating where you wish to boat and talk to them . a good place to meet them would where they load and unload there boats
