If the teeth are so far apart that the first tooth has a sign on it that says "next tooth one mile", then yes I do notice.

Sure I do, but I'm a dentist. Looking at teeth is what I do. Is it distracting? I'd say that the overall appearance of the smile - which includes the entire face - is more important than a little gap between the teeth. Okay, if it's a gap half as wide as the teeth themselves, it starts to look like a Bubba-Gap and that can affect your impression of the person, but most minor gaps are just part of the person's character to me.
Lauren Hutton. Madonna. Who else??? Who cares about the gap!

Teeth are one of the first things I notice. A gap means nothing.
Rotten or missing teeth another story.

I do, but I think that has more to do with the fact that I am a Dental Therapist. I really notice mouths.
