before he cannot get into heaven?
Please be specific and try to avoid rambling, incoherent speculations about unrelated matters.
Example: A person can only sin once (or any other applicable number) a day (or period).
And, other than "blaspheming the Holy Ghost" (whatever that means), is there any sin that will prevent a person from going to heaven? If so, please specify:
Example:
Adultery; lying; murder; thievery; etc.
Please be concise.
Thanks.

Clarification:
I am an atheist and not seeking anything other than answers to questions I ask. Please do not be compelled to try to convert me, just answer the questions.
The motivation for asking the question is the implied claim by some Christians that Christians are bound by rules prohibiting them from sin.
Which is totally opposite to everything I have learned about Christian doctrine. So, I ask the Y!A community to clarify the issue and tell everyone the rules regarding number & kind of sins Christians are allowed.
So far, some of the answers haven't been very specific. Vague comments about "should" will not be considered for "best answer" if that is your goal.
Nor will comments that ignore the first part of the question regarding how many sins a person can commit.
Thanks for your answers, I'm trying to help you get "best answer," if that is your goal.

Jesus taught that we need to forgive seventy times seven. Would God forgive us any less? And no, that doesn't mean 490 sins is our limit. We serve a God of limitless mercy. But a Christian also realizes that we are not to take advantage of God's grace. He knows our hearts. A true born again believer will not have an attitude of, well I'll just commit this sin and ask forgiveness, that should cover it. That is not the heart of a person who has truly repented of their sins and desires to live a life pleasing to God.
To those who come to the Father by the son, who truly have repented of sin and want to live a life obedient to His ways (not that we will always do that); the forgiveness of God is boundless.
You mentioned the one sin the bible says is unforgiveable: blasphemy of the holy spirit. That is the utter rejection of the calling of the holy spirit, that a person will reject Jesus Christ. We know this how? Because in the new testament it tells us time and again that unless you believe in Jesus, you will not go to heaven. Since no other sin is unforgiveable, the one that is is turning from the saving grace God extends through His son.

No, there is no sin limit - but no matter how much sin a person commits he must ask God for forgiveness and accept Jesus's death as the payment for his sin before he will get into heaven. Being 'good' will not work. I'm not sure about sins that will stop a person from getting to heaven, but I don't believe there really are any. Blashpheming the Holy Ghost would be saying the Holy Spirit doesn't exist, etc. The Holy Spirit is the part of God (Trinity) that lives in us and helps point us to God.
You sound a little confused about heaven. Works will not get you there. Find a Bible Believing, Christ trusting church and have them explain more if you want. I'll pray for you!

I can see that they (The Fundie Christians) have not let you in on their little secret. You see it is really not about sin but rather about heresy points. God has this whole point system regarding different heresies. Once you accumulate a total of 150 heresy points you can get whipped right straight into hell. Now you can have points deducted but more about that later.
Okay say you believe in infant baptism. That’s a big 55 Heresy Points right there.
Non-Dispensational 12 Points
Post Millennial 8 Points
Mid Trib 8 Points
Post Trib 15 Points
Pray to Mary 212 Points
I’m guessing you’re getting the idea.
Okay so you’re worried about your soul. Well there is good news. You can earn negative points. Say you attend your nieces christening. Well god isn’t going to be happy happy about that and your going to get nailed with a big 15 HPs. What are you going to do?
Well… If you can make some heathen scum none Christian feel bad you can lose 0.1 points. So go to a hospital and find some non-Christian with a sick child. Tell them that this is God punishing them for being a heathen scumbag. If you can get them to lose it you get that big -0.1 points.
There is even better news!!! If you can make another Christian look bad you get a whole point back. That’s right -1.0 points.
Get a picture of one of those deacons having a drink down at the bar and spring it on him during the next church leadership meeting. Get a point back. Confront the choir director about his homosexual son right after a praise and worship service. There is another point back.
If you keep your eyes and ears open god will bless you. God will bless you.

Sorry I don't have a specific number. It seems in the Old Testament it was much easier to condemn someone. If you claimed that your wife was an adulteress you could call out the goon squad and have her stoned, one way ticket to the hot seat. Now a days it is much more confusing, one batch of Christians will tell you the only way to get to Hell is to reject Christ. The next, tells you if your priest forgives you your OK, say a few Hail Marys. Some, will tell you it's all about faith, if you have faith your going to Heaven. So, to try and pin an exact number on sin is impossible. All I can say is go in peace and sin no more, or less.
So long, and thanks for all the fish, err, question.

The only sin that keeps us from heaven is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit which simply means rejecting the conviction to accept Jesus Christ as our Savior when it comes upon us. Otherwise, we are sin, some of us are saved sinners and some of us are lost sinners. Once we are saved, we seek forgiveness for our sins, but just because we get saved doesn't mean we won't sin. And there is no amount, once we are saved that will keep us from heaven, or unless we reject Christ after having known him. I hope this has clarified for you both "blasphemy of the Holy Spirit" and sin - as long as you are not a Christian sin is sending you to hell anyway, because that is what we are born sinfully into, a death that leads to hell. Heaven is the option, not hell.

Under Christian beliefs you can keep sinning until you die, then you have to stop. While this is a bit flippant, I do not really see a term limit for sin. Once a person has genuinely come to Christ, The bible says God will not reject that person for any reason. The simple and concise answer to your question is no. Their are of course other problems with a person who continues to sin, but that is a different question.

You're not even allowed to sin, of course, but it is our nature to sin. It's like an instinct I guess. Everyone sins in their life. But God always forgives us. I don't think there's a possible way for someone to go to heaven and keep that rule that you can only "sin once per day" or any number or time. The only way you can get into Heaven is to believe God's Word, and believe that Jesus died for your sins.

people sin all the time, even Christians.
But if you are not a Christian, you aren't headed to Heaven anyway. You have to become a Christian to be headed towards Heaven.
If you are a Christian, you sin every day anyway, but you need to seek to avoid sinning, not see how much you can get away with.
If your goal is to see how much you can get away with, or what sins you can get away with and still be "right" with God, then you're on the wrong track and probably not saved anyway.
The goal (as they told the Pony Express rider) is not to see how close you can get to the edge of the cliff without going over. .
it's to STAY as far away from the cliff as you can. . not even GO anywhere near it. Therefore, give up sinning, and seek to always obey God and not sin.
The Bible says that if we have any other attitude than this about sin, we may very well not be saved.
"for if we go on sinning willfully, after coming to the knowledge of the Truth, there is no longer any sacrifice left for sin, but a fiery furnace which will consume the enemies of God" (they will be tormented there forever. . they won't just be 'burnt up" and not feel anything anymore, that's nonsense and a myth, according to what God clearly says).

No limit,, if you are saved, and ask God to come into your heart and be your savor and Lord,, and to forgive you for your sins.
I once thought that if you commited suicide that you wouldn't go to heaven,, but a study was done by a church member and found this not to be the complete truth.
I am not trying to convert you.. but ...
O ..just believe, and you will have a much sweeter life.. (not that it is now,,but it is bound to get nasty somedays I am sure. )
have a great day.

we as christians are to lead a sinless life but that is impossible for we all sin. If we do we can repent and ask God to forgive us and we are not to repeat that mistake again. the above mentioned are sins in the eyes of our Lord but they can be forgiven. I hope this answered some of your question and please forgive me if i rambled on this is the only way i know to explain God Bless
