Steps:
1) Warm up your tongue so it can get used to some of the postions required for rolling r's. Try to fold your tongue in half, turn it upside down, flutter it, curl it up and down, and so on.
2) Relax your mouth and open it slightly.
3) Curl your tongue up very slightly just behind your top gums. Make sure that it doesn't touch either the roof of the mouth or the teeth/gums.
43) Tense your tongue.
5)Breathe out, so that your tongue vibrates.
6)Put your mouth in different positions and pronounce: ri, re, ra, ro, ru. If you like, go through all the vowels again with a soft r, by fusing an "r" and a soft "y" sound.
7) Use a foreign language dictionary to practice words containing a rolled letter R.
Tips:
1) Practice every day.
2) Want to cheat a little? Try replacing the "r" with a "d" sound. (For instance, the word "practice" would become "padactice".) However, it won't sound right if you say the word slowly, or if the word begins with an 'r'!
3) For step 5, some find it easier to allow their tongue to vibrate against their mouth, while others prefer not to. Make sure that if you do want to touch your teeth, do so lightly.
4) Keep your mouth relaxed. If you purse your lips, your rolled R will come out too forceful.
5) Try to go through musical scales or a simple song singing "rrrrr."
6) It's easier to pick up the proper techinque if you're exposed to it. Listen to a foreign language radio and take note of the pronounciation.
Oh yeah, and just for future reference, the word "tres" doesn't really have a ROLLED r. It's actually just flipped, so it's like trilling the r, but for a very brief period of time. You usually only roll/trill an r if there's two of them in a row, with the exception of certain placements with various vowels/consonants or certain words. But the general rule is flip one r, trill/roll two. ;-)

Hi!
Usually the easy example would be to imitate the sound of a drill...
Have you ever done that? Is "Trrrrrrrrrrrrrr".
There is no way you roll your tonge as americans do for they R's if you are imitating a drill. Have the image in your mind and try it!
Put the tip of your tongue right behind your upper teeth to start. That's the trick. RIGHT BEHIND... if you back the tongue too much it'll sound "american rolled".
Just do it and blow air out.
It is fun, it streches your tongue and actually relaxed your face muscles. It is an exercise widely spread for voice lessons.
Goodluck!

don't fret, not everyone can do it. Try bending your tounge towards the back part of the roof of your mouth and forcing air out at the same time.
