Be careful with low carbs. In fact, this whole concept disturbs me. We need only 3-4 ounces of protein a day - say, a piece of meat the size of a deck of cards. A day. Americans consume far too much protein, and with it, animal fat (that evil cholesterol).

Low carbs can be dangerous. Almost 20% of the carbs we take in go to fuel the brain. Don't shortchange your child's brain food!

Low fat is good. Try to limit it to no more than 30% of calories. Read labels!

A healthy diet focuses primarily on fruits, vegetables and whole grains, an essential source of B vitamins. Take a look at the food pyramid and try to tailor your child's diet to it.

See this site below to see why high protein foods are very unhealthy with link to American Heart Assoc. Should be high in good carbs like salads or salad veggies, fruit (many have all 8 essential amino acids to make a complete protein), other veggies and brown rice. Animal products loaded with hormones, anti-biotics etc. unless you buy free range and grass fed animals.

See book mentioned by MD and RD with lots of studies done about brown rice diet.
