I had the same thing happen to me a few days ago, I just used an electronic back massager on my neck when I came home and it went away finally. They really do the trick.

Take some Advil and apply a heating pad to the muscle knot. It may take a couple of days for your stiff neck to disappear. Gently try to stretch it, but don't force it. If it is not better in a couple of days, see a doctor.

Try taking acetaminophen for the pain, or muscle relaxant. Massaging it will also relax the muscle and take away the stiffness. If you regularly experience this, I suggest you change your pillow, and buy something that will be more comfortable to you. If it's really chronic, then I suggest you go to the doctor and have yourself evaluated.

Heat. Either a heating pad if you have the time to be stuck in one place. Or you can use ThermaCare Heatwraps. Aspercreme works well too.
