I have been to two Trinidad Carnivals years ago. On both occasions I stayed at Holiday Inn. They had a huge dance in the parking lot with 4 bands until morning. Things have changed a bit. Their carnival is held just before the Lenten season. I have been to about 5 Antigua Carnivals, one Barbados Carnival and one Dominica Carnival. Trinidad and Dominica have theirs at the same time and both end on Ash Wednesday. Antigua has one week of activities culminating in what they call August Monday. Barbados' Carnival ends one week before that of Antigua. Whereas they are similar in structure, in Antigua, the hotels organize "troupes" or bands where guests and the staff can dress up in special costumes and participate. You dance in the streets and go to the parade grounds. There are prizes for best hotel float, best band and best costumes. Just plug Antigua carnival, Trinidad carnival or Barbados carnival and you will see their websites. There is an added attraction in Antigua-the Stanford 20/20 cricket begins two weeks before carnival and the semifinals and finals culminate the week after carnival.

I was born and raised in Trinidad but now live and work in Tobago.
I have also 'played mas' this is the term refered to participating in the Carnival parade by the locals here, and I must say it truly is an event everyone must take part. It's the best, lots of people parading in their skimpy/not so skimpy costumes, sexy men and women, great calypso music. Parading also starts about 6am in the morning and sometime continues well after midnight. Trinidad & Tobago has the most friendliest people on this planet, always parting or in local terms "liming". Carnival here is refered to "The Greatest Show on Earth". The fun part is experiencing Carnival as a masquerader. Over the years' we have had celebrities such as Gabrielle Union, Victoria Rowell, even the Anderson guy taking part in our Carnival celebrations. I even met "Diddy's" mom in Tobago having dinner in the hotel and restaurant where I worked. Hope you really do visit

I haven't been to the Carnival in Trinidad yet but maybe someday. They had the 2006 Caribana Parade here in Toronto Canada this past weekend and it was excellent, better than last year. If you want to check out photos from this Parade and the 2006 Trinidad Carnival, check out carnivalpower.com They have alot of pictures also of the one in St Vincent.

I've not had the funds or opportunity to go there yet, but I would really love to. It's on my list of things to do in the next 5 years. If you're going, have fun, I imagine it would be awesome!!!!
