I am really enjoying reading your opinions and mostly everyone has a good idea of the question. I am a parent and all my children are on their own. Although I have to say my oldest was told to leave because of a bad attitude (he told us we are responsible for him forever and he was insulted we asked him to pay room and board). He is a highly paid school teacher now and hates us to where he divorced himself from us. I thank the Lord we didnot have that problem with the other two.

I forgot to say this in my other writeup but to you kids that are attached to the apron strings of your parents -- think of your hard working parents that need a break and also let them enjoy their life too without you always there. Did you every think they may want some enjoyment of going to visit you ?

A 20-year-old college student living at home is OK. A 20-year-old not in school needs to pack it up and move it on out.

i disagree with this statement actually. i am 24, and i live with my father(parents are divorced). i would be more than happy to move out, but as with most 20-somethings, i have bills. i can't afford to leave. i am also trying to save to go back to college. living on my own would defeat that purpose. however, the debt ratio of many 20-somethings outweighs what they make. not to mention the rising cost of housing, it makes it incredibly difficult to find a decent place, even with roomies. a nice 2 bedroom apartment around here runs $1100/mo. this doesn't factor in utilities or any other necessities. society is changing to where it's becoming more acceptable for older children to remain at home. and it's not even that they lack the desire, they just lack the funds. i do understand your point though, there are kids who are completely lazy and still solely relying on their parents, and in that case it's time to move on.

If my kid isn't going to school by that age, or contributing to their living expenses, then they'll be out. If they are doing some thing productive and responsible, I wouldn't have a problem with them staying.

But again, if they're lazy a** is buring fart holes in my couch, then the big boot will get them in the a**.

Guests, like fish, stink after three days. Children stink much worse after 18 years. Children should be raised to understand that by 18 years old they need to get their own life. You should get children out of your nest no later than 90 days after they turn 18. That is our responsibility to them, to raise them to be self-sufficient by the age of adulthood. They may not enjoy the same quality of living that they do in your nest. And, it is hard to see our children struggle. But, it's for the best. Unless your intention is to keep your children dependent and crippled, get them off your tit by eighteen. Our efforts as parents are judged not by how comfortable and protected we keep our children, but by how well they can stand on their own two feet without you by the onset of adulthood.
