Well, usually you have to fill out a form and send it to the Department of Health (in NJ) or whoever controls the birth certificates. This department is usually housed within the courthouse or records department. Start calling around to any state agency and just ask-most state workers can guide you. If you look on the web, you can type in birth certificates in ______ (your state) and it might come up. Good luck!

Call the Bureau of Vital Statistics in the State where you were born and ask the price of a birth certificate and whether you can pick it up, have it mailed to you, get it online with a credit card or if you have to request it in writing along with a check.

You have to call the town office of the town in which you were born. They will send you a copy for ...well, it was 5.00 when I did it, it could be more now. Just call information of the town you were born in and ask for the number for the town hall, tell them you need a copy of your birth certificate and then you can take it from there.
