How do i minimize the appearance of my programs window?

I have a lot of programs and was wondering if it was possible to reduce the appearance of the subfolder and not just increase the resolution. I want it to have those little arrow extenders so i can start off with a little view, press the extender, and everything shows.

Right-click on an empty space on the taskbar.
Select Properties.
Put an checkmark in the box for "hide inactive icons."
