Sharp makes quality projectors. I have used this one, and the picture really is great. The Sharp you are looking at is a great projector, nice inputs (VGA) and it has audio options also. The Viewsonic PJ656 is cheaper, brighter, and has more input options, and also looks great. It is an LCD so the contrast is not a great. I would compare the two side by side if i were you. You could save $150 and get a better product. (But both are great)

If you are looking for a projctor for television viewing, be aware that the projector you mentioned is not true HDTV, even though it will accept HDTV signals as inputs. For home theater, you will need to go to the higher level models which cost more than twice as much. I have a Sharp DLP HDTV projector and it is excellent. Yamaha also makes an excellent DLP projector (a little more expensive than the Sharp). For HDTV, look for native resolution of 1280 x 720 or better.

2000 lumens is out of the ballpark for an entry level projector.
optoma dv-10 "movietime projector" is a decent one.
Its a 1000 lumen and its plenty.

get something that does widescreen in native mode(16:9)
otherwise when you are watching a widescreen dvd you will be wasting pixels on the black bars
