HOMEMADE VANILLA ICE CREAM:
This is a great way to make ice cream when your gelato machine is out for repair.
What you will need:
2 freezer bags (one has to be smaller then the other one)
In the small freezer bag:
2 tablespoons vanilla extract
200 ml (1 cup) of milk
2 tablespoons sugar
50 g (4 tablespoons) pure cream (18% milk also used in coffee)
In the big freezer bag:
25 ice cubes (if big cubes put 15, if small put 25)
5 tablespoons iodized salt (if normal salt, put in 10 tbsp)
Gather all ingredients.
Put the ingredients in each bag as specified. After, close the small bag, sealing well so that there are no leaks, and put it into the big bag.
Mix the contents of the bags well for at least 10-15 minutes. It should be thick and creamy. If so, then remove contents of inner bag and serve.
If the inner bag's contents are still liquid, put some more ice cubes and salt in the outer back and rub the two of the bags together longer.
HOMEMADE STRAWBERRY ICE CREAM:
3 cups nonfat dry milk powder
6 tablespoons butter, melted
1 cup boiling water
24 packages Sweet 'n Low sweetener, or Equal
1 small pkg vanilla pudding mix, Nutrasweet
4 cans sugar-free strawberry soft drink
16 ounces frozen strawberries, sliced*
3 cups skim milk, (or 4 cups)
Blend dry milk powder, butter, water and Equal in blender. Pour into ice cream freezer container. Slowly stir in pudding. Mix well. Slowly mix in soft drink and strawberries. Add milk to fill line. Freeze.
Serving Size: 32

Lets see I have been looking online.......at all kinds of web sites....
here goes:
Materials
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup whipping cream (heavy cream)
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon vanilla or vanilla flavoring (vanillin)
1/2 to 3/4 cup sodium chloride (NaCl) as table salt or rock salt
2 cups ice
1-quart ZiplocTM bag
1-gallon ZiplocTM bag
themometer
measuring cups and spoons
cups and spoons for eating your treat!
Add 1/4 cup sugar, 1/2 cup milk, 1/2 cup whipping cream, and 1/4 teaspoon vanilla to the quart ziplocTM bag. Seal the bag securely.
Put 2 cups of ice into the gallon ziplocTM bag.
Use a thermometer to measure and record the temperature of the ice in the gallon bag.
Add 1/2 to 3/4 cup salt (sodium chloride) to the bag of ice.
Place the sealed quart bag inside the gallon bag of ice and salt.
Seal the gallon bag securely.
Gently rock the gallon bag from side to side. It's best to hold it by the top seal or to have gloves or a cloth between the bag and your hands because the bag will be cold enough to damage your skin.
Continue to rock the bag for 10-15 minutes or until the contents of the quart bag have solidified into ice cream.
Open the gallon bag and use the thermometer to measure and record the temperature of the ice/salt mixture.
Remove the quart bag, open it, serve the contents into cups with spoons and ENJOY!!!!!
I know that wsa long but it was the shortest one I could find. Good luck

really the best way to make homemade ice cream is to make a custard. 1 quart of cream, 8 egg, yolks and 1 - 1.5 cups of sugar. cook til slightly thick but not curdled. allow to cool and chill to 40 degrees. add vanilla if you like. then freeze in your ice cream freezer. add in fruit and other additions at the end of the freezing process.
or for really quick ice cream
4 sweetened condensed milk, 1 pt cream, 2 T vanilla, fill the rest of the container with whole milk and freeze in your electric freezer
enjoy

yum! i'm the queen of homemade ice cream in my family! lol. here is my recipe:
3 large egg yolks, slightly beaten
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup milk
1/4 tsp. salt
2 cups heavy whipping cream
1 tablespoon vanilla
mix egg yolks, sugar, and milk together. pour into a saucpan and heat over medium heat, stirring frequently until mixture gets hot and bubbly, but NOT boiling. the mixture should get really thick, you have just made a custard(the ultimately most important part of ice cream making!). pour this mixture through a find sieve to get rid of any cooked egg bits. allow to cool before adding the whipping cream and vanilla. let this mixture to cool completely, refrigerate for at least one day. then pour into your ice cream maker and follow it's directions. it's also best to freeze your canister for the maker for one day too.
good luck! don't be afraid to mess around with different flavors and additives..this is definitely the best base you can get for ice cream. :-)

You can buy a small ice cream maker, that has a refrigerant in it that is sealed inside. Just put it in the freezer until it's really cold, then get it out, put in the mix, crank and walla, homemade ice cream. No melting ice, salt and all that mess. ENJOY!!!

Buy an ice cream maker (if you don't already have one) and most of them now come with recipe books so they'll show you. If you already have an ice cream maker but didn't get a recipe book, go to Cuisinart and look through their recipe section. There's something like 15-20 ice cream/frozen yogurt/gelato recipes in there to choose from. Cuisinarts website is:

this is how my mom does it:
(it's very low tech)and no cooking!
In a two qt. container place 1 cup whole milk,2 cans of cream, 2 cups of sugar, 1 tbsp. of vanilla extract, Mix well with a hand mixer for about two minutes, place in freezer for about 1hour, remove mix again for about two minutes, place in freezer for about 1 hour, remove mix for 2 minutes....etc for about 4-5 hours upon each time it's removed it should be getting thicker. then on the last hour or two you can add fresh fruit. after that you'll need to use a heated ice cream scoop to get it out.
