The schools are taking more and more profit; that means a higher price at the machine. I believe you can take your own chips and save money.

Oh, duckie, there's a big conspiracy to sell kids junk food and sodas. No kidding--Coke and Pepsi want to get your business wherever they can, and chip and garbage-food companies want to sell you snacks because you're a captive audience and if you have 85 cents, you'll probably want something fatty and salty. These big companies spend lots of time and money trying to get contracts to sell you stuff and get your money.

Fight the power! Bring your own snacks to school--I guarantee you it'll be a better deal and you'll be fighting these companies that just want to make as much money as possible off innocent kids. Plus, you can bring whatever you want and you won't be wasting money to get those little bitty bags. Even if you bring junk, it'll be cheaper. And don't drink their sodas--yes, they taste good and you can have them as a treat, but you should buy them at the grocery store where they make less of a profit and you can save some $. Be a smart consumer and don't give in to the lure of the vending machines!

At school, you are what's known as a 'captive' audience. You can not escape them to go elsewhere to buy the chips, so, the school will charge what they can.
After all, they have to have money to clean up all the damage that is done by the students, and can't raise taxes.
