The most important thinsg you said were that you were ready to walk him every day and make him your full responsibility. A big plus is also that you have a backyard. By all means - get a dog. Dogs need a lot more responsible owners. Before you get a german shepherd (or any other breed) do some research on the breed and if you decide on a shepherd, make sure you go to a reputable breeder because this breed has a lot of hip dysplasia and you want a breeder who has had his breeding stock certified.

Good luck finding a dog!

German sheperds are hard dogs to have as first dogs, and also as apartment dogs. They need good training, because they can be great dogs if well trained, and a terrible if poorly trained.

Some good first dogs are labradors (but high energy), King Charles Cavaliers, and Neufies (but they are HUGE).

It sounds like you might be ready, but sometimes it is best to do a trial run. Maybe try borrowing or dogsitting a friend's dog for a couple of weeks because a dog is a committment that lasts up to 15 years for a big dog, longer for small dogs.

You'd better makes sure you have the time, especially if you're getting a puppy. Try borrowing a friend's dog for awhile.
German shepherds are intelligent and adapt well to different situations, including apartments. They need to be exercised 2-3 times a day (I'd recommend a good dog park) and socialized properly when young. They can shed a lot, so get a good brush!
Good luck!

No. You sound like you like the novelty of a german shepard, but would get bored when you have to walk it in the rain etc. I think you should start with a fish. It does not sound like you have had a dog in the past, you need an easier, smaller dog to deal with if you have your heart set on a dog. Steer away from terriers as well, they are stubborn. Get a cocker spaniel at biggest, they are sweet, easy to train, and will love you to death.

Yes sounds like you are ready. I love German Shepards. I wanted a teacup yorkie but my husband got me a pitbull. She is like one of my children. Couldn't imagine not having her. She truly is one of the family. I had a white german shepard years ago. He was very sweet and a great companion.

I don't think a GSD would be a good apartment dog. They bore easily and unless you are willing to walk him/her several miles a day, I would go for something smaller. Just my opinion.

I THINK SO..I WANTED A DOG BUT I DON'T THINK I'M RESPONSIBLE ENOUGH TO WALK HIM TWICE A DAY..I CAN'T GET A CAT CAUSE I'M ALLERGIC TO THEM..SO I GO THE NEXT BEST THING..A FERRET!!!
