I'm 15 and am trying to get in shape for church softball next year. Also am just trying to improve my body. Currently I am doing push-ups and crunches. I have until next spring. Will this work and do you have any suggestions?

Some good answers so far. I'm healthy in all but I have asthma that will kick in after a minute or so of running. Short sprints are okay, but not longer ones. Should have a place to run soon, not right now though.

Sure, it's good to get your core strong and your arms strong. You will need both. But you don't mention any cardio to get your heart pumping. You can't cheat the bases, so you gotta get some cardio stamina.

First, make sure you are healthy. Ask your parents to get you a sports physical.

If you're okay then, add running to your exercises. Every day except 1. Establish a good base of slow distance running, in your case, maybe a mile or 2. You will find that with a good LSD (long, slow distance) base, you will recover quickly from the sprints when training starts. Then the LSD base will carry into the season and you will be Mr Flash around those bases.

Good Luck

For crunches and push-ups, do at least 50 each a day. You'll be better in no time. You should also consider getting some excercise machine. Practice your sprinting and long distance running also, it'll help condition you for softball.

wrist curls with either a 2.5 or 5 lb dumb bell will significantly improve wrist snap for throwing or pitching and strengthen your swing at the plate
