Berkeley is an institution held in the highest regard. They do not "pick sides", have no "agenda" to push, and have no "dogma".

If you are going to study evolution, stay away from "creation scientists" etc. They are obviously biased towards creationism and want to bend the truth to their religious needs.

If you do encounter materials through "answers in genesis" and the "institute for creation research", balance what you've read there with what you can read here;

Lots of "fact based" info, rather than "faith led" info.

I have studied religion, have you REALLY studied evolution, or just used your faith and assumed what your preacher/favourite site tells you?

Exactly what I expected Tracer,

No real answer, just more dogma and a thumbs down. Thanks for reaffirming MY faith.

kathy6500, It's obvious that you did not read any of what I posted, or linked to because here @

http://evolution.berkeley.edu/evosite/misconceps/IIAjusttheory.shtml
and
http://talkorigins.org/faqs/faq-misconceptions.html#proof

are reasons why the way you use the term "fact" term is irrelevant to evolution

Dope Boy Magic, how can you be against facts?

You may disagree with HOW evolution happened, but there is no disagreement on that it DID happen.

2006-08-10 12:35:09 · update #3

Andy VK from Houston, Logical inconsistencies? The method of evolution is at discussion not the fact that it happened.

Go back and look over the evidence again.

Thanks for jumping in here D-Dawg.

Please take the time to fully look through the berkeley site. I'm sure you'll find lots of evidence to refute the dogma that's been quoted from AIG/ICR and evolution crunchers.

I don't care whether someone is religious or not, I just care that they're being fed "one sided facts" from a dogmatic source

Good sources, I agree that Berkeley's site is the best for not taking sides. Unfortunately, those who are in most need of being informed are the same ones who will just scoff at this question then pray for your hell bound soul.

I took a course in Science & Religion. Before the class, I really had very little opinion about evolution. I am simply not very learned about science, and so I didn't have sufficient knowledge in the subject to be able to judge a scientific theory like that. After the class however, I feel persuaded that evolution is most likely right. I still cannot claim very firm knowledge one way or the other, because as I said, I do not have very good knowledge of science. But I really tried to understand all the sides of the issues presented, and came away quite impressed by the evolutionary theorists' arguments, and extremely un-impressed by the creationists' arguments.

I was glad to learn in this class that a good number of Christians - including some Evangelical Christians - accepted evolution.

Yes, I get a lot of info from my college courses that worked towards my degree in Biology.

On the other side I did look at answers in genesis just to see what the other side is arguing. The funny thing is that most of the creationist arguments used here on Yahoo Answers are what is cited on that site as "Arguments that Creationists Should Not Use". Like the "Why are monkeys still around?" argument for example.

Evolution as you have studied it does not even exist among current scientists.

Although environmental evolution does occur, the original THEORY of evolution has so many holes in it that it now exists in school textbooks and other outdated media in libraries.

For evolution to be true in the sense that you want it to be true, we would have to somehow be able to interbreed with other like animals. Thankfully we cannot. No matter how much DNA you would like to believe is similar between us and certain animals, they cannot produce off spring. For evolution to continue to happen on the scale that it should if the theory were correct, we would be able to create "new" species continually, and again thankfully we cannot.

Another way to look at it, if we could or they could mix corn and tomatoes and create a new vegetable or fruit, evolution between something would work, but it was not created that way, and to say it cannot create that way, is to say that there must be a creator who does not allow this or it would be being done.

Hense, environmental evolution is consistant with science and history. The entire scope of evolution as how we and all else got here is not consistant with history or science.

We and animals and plants are still basically the same as we have been throughout known history. If the original theory of evolution was correct, we sure made ourselves awfully stupid when we didnt need to if we were in total control of how we evolve.

-"Evolution is the law of policies: Darwin said it, Socrates endorsed it, Cuvier proved it and established it for all time in his paper on “The Survival of the Fittest.” These are illustrious names, this is a mighty doctrine: nothing can ever remove it from its firm base, nothing dissolve it, but evolution."

The question is not between religion or evolution ...its between "purpose" or "accident". I have "truly" studied both religion and evolution and I have learned nothing from either that has dis-swayed me of belief in the other. The opposite ...each affirms the other.

Your right. "Creationist Scientists" have no business telling us about evolution and people really should research things themselves instead of being stupid and beleiving everything that their pastors say.
But, why bother studying evolution when it attacks the very foundation on which my religion rests? Its like a deaf person learning how to put a CD in in a player.
Me studying evolution has no benifits.

Yes I have.

I see after fully reading your question who it was directed towards. I'm guessing you already knew the answer because its quite obvious that none of the christians on here know even the slightest bit about evolution.

Im christian and yes ive studied the theory of Evolution...I love to study these kind of things, if i didnt study these type of things then there would be no point of me arguing, so i educate myself on tons of different theories so that i can be better prepared to answer difficult questions.....i cant stand people who just argue totally one sided just because thats all they know, christians and evolutionist both

You may think you have studied "religion" and you may wll have... but I can guarantee that you have not studied The True Christian Faith...The Christian Faith can not be studied... only lived.

I know enough about evolution to know that it is a theory with some sound scientific foundation behind it... I know too that it can never... never... be proven scientificaly... as neither can the creationist positon...

All Science is from God... thus all science is good. It is man's mucking about with it that causes all the trouble for mankind... if it were not for the misuse, misunderstanding, and downright ignorance of ALL of mankind concerning mankinds limited understanding of science, all of mankind would be living in peace and plenty... man is nowhere close to any true understanding of all of the science God has put in place to maintain the universe.
