The way You speak is the way you think - and feel. By the manner you speak you provoke corresponding reactions.
So one besides other reasons for white teenagers to copy black people's talking manners might be to make an experience approaching the social situation of the black people whose articulation is copied.
This experience is a bit similar to the one somebody makes when playing a part as an actor in theatre. It's a kind of uncertain and unconscious empathy with the character specified by the part.

I think its stupid. Generally, white kids have had the benefit of having been taught to speak English well (for the most part).
I know many Black kids have as well, but I wish the Black kids who prefer "their own" way of talking would decide that it might be nice if they embranced mainstream English.
Plenty of Black individuals speak incredibly eloquent English. I don't know what some Black kids would choose to reject those role models and only speak slang (or whatever its called).
I find it unfortunate that many Black kids don't speak "mainstream" English (the way most Black leaders do); because it brings them down to a level we all would prefer Black people be above.
So now when White kids start doing it to - what are they thinking?!!! Maybe it isn't cool to speak as well as, say, Colin Powell or Condoleeza Rice; but why, on Earth, would anyone - Black or White - want to come across as a sub-culture that doesn't speak well (for example, the way slaves used to be).
Blacks deserve better than that "cool" talk. Whites are even dumber for copying it. When White kids copy it its a great example of "one bad applie spoils the whole bunch" (although I'm in no way saying that slang or street talk makes a person bad).

Well I think that you are probably talking about a type of "white" young person often enthused by "black culture" and music who probably counts a number of black youngsters amongst his peers.
In order to gain acceptance and to pay homage to their peers young white folks might attempt to walk, talk and dress like their friends, in itself a form of flattery.
I don't think that your question is intended to be racist although you might consider re-phrasing.
You might be aware that white people born in Jamaica tend to have a Jamaican accent.
I doubt if anyone would ask the following question :-
What do you think of black teenagers talking like white people?
It is just accepted that some may not conform to a stereotype image.
I imagine that rap music has done a lot to endear many white youngsters to black culture.
Like many teenage fads and mannerisms it does in most cases wear off in time.
Let it be,
God bless.

I don't think a whole lot of anyone who is trying to pretend to be something that they're not. But on the other hand, they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. So I guess those kids must think it seems "cool" and they want to be cool, too. Whatever. I do agree with those who say your question could have been worded better so as not to assume it's "talking like black people."

I think this is a rather racist question but, I'll take the bait.
If they speak in that manner because they hang around people who speak that way, it's only natural.
If they are speaking in that manner because they idolize the "gangster-isms", still, it is only natural to imitate that which you respect.
While I dislike a lot of the "black slang", mainly the disrespectfulness towards others and ridiculous abbreviations, it is their culture, like it or not.

I'm black and I have the poshest accent going so what is this "talking like black people" you speak of. There is no talking like black people, there are only accents from certain classes and areas of the country.
In South London there is an Urban accent - havent you heard how a lot of the Asian youth speak? Are they speaking like Black people?
No they arent.
So what makes you think the white kids are? Its an URBAN accent
Same goes for East London/Essex. Its more of a cockney accent but everyone has it. No one is speaking like any colour they are just speaking in the dialect of the area they were brought up. I grew up in a posh middle class town in Kent. There are plenty of Chinese, White, Indian, Black people here nowadays and they all have the same accent as me.
So what does that tell you?

Maybe you should have worded your question, "What do you think of SUBURBAN teenagers speaking in STREET SLANG?"
Plenty of white kids grow up in the ghetto; you just don't hear much about them. How else would you expect to hear them sound?
Over-privileged suburban teenagers that try to act street, though, annoy the hell out of me. It's not enough for them that they get to grow up with all the advantages they have; they want to steal the only advantage inner-city kids have, too (the general impression that they are cooler than suburban kids).

Social Order my dear.
Nothing to do with colour or race.
`twas always the same, like rhyming slang or any other slang for that matter...it separates the classes and creates a culture that gives comfort to those within a certain social group.
I hope they all grow up wise and happy.
