I'm not very technical so excuse me sounding dull, but you know when you get up close to the screen you can see only 3 colours... Well the red doesn't work 95% of the time. It's usually working when it's switched on, then fades away. And then sometimes the red takes over the whole screen for about 15 seconds and you can't even see the picture through it.

Is it fixable or time to trade in for a flat screen. (I'd feel bad tho cos the advent of flat screen, fab though it is has meant loss of jobs in my area, cos we had a Sony plant making the tubes, but they've stopped production here and switched to europe).

Sorry, rambling, back to the point, reckon it's worth lugging it to a repair shop, or straight to the tip. Either way I'm fed upof white people being grey and black people being green (honest that's how they look with no red)!

iirc when a colour goes on a tube TV it's usually not worth fixing (it will probably need a new tube), TV repair just ain't what it used to be what with all the flat screens around now, mostly with digital components; I doubt places would be willing to repair a tube with such a fault even if it were possible, assuming they still have the repair gadgets and expertise.

Go for a new tube TV or LCD - whenever I've seen Plasma next to an LCD the picture of the LCD was twice as nice.

I would always recommend buying quality such as Sony, if your budget allows.

Well, if your TV's gone and you feel guilty about taking jobs from tube manufacturers, just buy a new tube TV. You can get a much larger tube TV for the same price as a flat panel of smaller size, if you've got the space.

Dont dump it just yet, this is quite a common fault as tvs age, if you can get someone to resolder the joints on the circuit board that plugs on to base of the tube this should correct the problem. If it doesnt then im afraid it it looks like the tube is kapput!

Why don't you call a repair shop, tell them the model and year of your television and get a quote? That way if it will cost less to just buy a new one, you will know and not spend time lugging the thing around town.

Maybe you're going colorblind. It might be coming and going. Ha-ha.

No, I'd probably take it to a thrift shop or something and then get another one. Maybe somebody with no TV would prefer one with bad coloration to no telly at all. But if no thrift shops will take it, chuck it--you'd probably spend about as much to fix it as you would to get a lame-o new TV. And hey, maybe when you take it to the thrift shop, they'll have another TV with proper colors! You can always hope.

First I would verify you do not just have a loose cable connection. Besides that-- I would not spend money to fix an old TV. Buy a new one-- which ever fits your budget and needs. I have a Samsung DLP rear projection that I think has a great picture.

your tube has gone, either cost a new tube if you love your telly or its time to go shopping
