Though she calls me by my first name, she wants her baby to know me as grandma.( I'm only in my 30's ) Grandma name is too old for me, any good names besides mamaw and nana so I can call myself? Whomever has the cutest name will get 10 worthless points. Thank you in advance.

my daughter started calling her grandma 'gamma' when she was 2 and it stuck, my daughter was the oldest and now my mother has 12 grand kids and they all call her gamma!

so, whatever you pick, be sure you really like it, because its a good bet you'll be called that more than Mom for the rest of your life!

You are way too young for the French "grande mere" but "Nani" is the East Indian word for Grandma, and its what some of my grandkids call me. Nani-ma means the mothers mother. Also " abuelita" is Spanish for grandmother, and a deritive of that is "Ita" which is cute and is often used. My 2 1/2 year old grandson calls me "Nona Dog." !!!!

I had a very close friend of my parents that I referred to as "Nana". I really like that, and I know people that have called their grandmothers by that name. I think it sounds very affectionate, and gives the impression of someone that really loves the ones that call her that. I know I did when I used it.

I am about to be a grandmother at 34 too!!!!
I have also been thinking of what to be called. I called both of my grandmothers "Granma". My oldest son (my mother was around 36) called my mother "Mom" and me "Mama". My stepsons & my youngest girl calls their's "Granny" & "Nanny" depending on their mood. My oldest daughter calls my mom "Granma". Everyone called my dad "Paw-Paw" or "Pe-Paw".

I have been toying with:
Me-Ma
Minnie
Mimi
Nanny
Nana (my fav)
Grams
Mams
Or Mama Reg

In greek mythology "Pheobe" was the name of Artimus' Grandmother.

I really like the name Granny - I know it still sounds old, but it is very endearing - and says that the relationship between the both of you is closer than someone who uses the more formal "Grandma".

I have heard of GiGi, Mama Dot (name was Dorothy), Honey, Grammy, and Kissee. Of course, the child may come up with something totally different! Congrats, and good luck!

How about

Granny + your first name... i.e. if you real name is Michelle, the baby could call you Granny Michelle, or Granny Mickey

Or, as with my kid, my parents just go by what first came out of his mouth... memaw. Whatever he calls you, take it.
