ANY breed of dog can be trained not to. But, the age at which the dog is introduced to cats can be an issue, as well as the general disposition of the dog.
I've had a Black Labrador which basically raised my kitten, with never a single problem. But, the dog was very mild mannered, and only about a year old when we got the kitten.
My parents have a 7 month old German Shepard, which I was sure would kill their two kittens that they just got. But, being around them for a while, with a little instruction, their dog is getting along well, for the most part, with the kittens.
My brother has a rottweiler, well known to be a "dangerous breed" of dog. But my brother worked for a long time to be sure the dog obeys every command. She is the most gentle, well behaved dog I have *EVER* seen. She had never been around a kitten until 2 years old, but was, still, incredibly gentle with my older cat, regardless of being a "dangerous breed" and having not been introduced to a cat for such a period of time.
In the end, it all has to do with the nature of the dog and the age. Some dogs just are not fond of cats.

Some dogs just do not get along with cats. I have known of a dog that had the sweetest disposition, but would kill a cat. It is the prey drive in them or if it is an older dog, then it is could also be something from their past. This is why a lot of shelters, b/f allowing a dog to be adopted out to a home with a cat...or even another dog for that matter, do interactions with cats and maybe with your own cat or dog.
You should always consider the safety of you rcurrent home animals before bringing home any other animals. There are also ways to introduce pets into the new homes with other pets.

When u say house cats do u mean they are yours? If they are yours and you also have a dog they should be used to each other. My pit bull and my cat are friends they sleep together but he's only nice to her, he chases all the other alley cats when he goes outside.. You need to do a slow introduction. Place a couple of baby gates in an opening to a room. Place the dog on one side and the cat on the other. Let them be able to see each other. Dogs are easier than cats at this. When your dog stops barking or growling at the cat treat and praise. Once they are able to look at each other through the gates without hissing or barking you can go to the next step. Have a friend sit with your cat on his/her lap on the couch. Make sure the cat is comfortable and relaxed. Place your dog on a lead and stand at the entrance to the room. Let the dog and cat see each other at a comfortable distance. If everything goes calmly, praise your dog ad take one step closer with the dog. If the dog or cat react badly, remove the dog and start again 30mins later. You should be able to slowly take steps closer to the cat every time. This will take a few days. Every time you should enter the room with your dog, (on the lead), and take a step closer. You should always wait and be relaxed for at least 10 - 15mins each time. Using a chair to sit on will help, and slowly move the chair closer to the cat. Soon you will have both the cat and the dog sitting next to each other comfortably. This takes time and patience.

Boy, that is serious. Get yourself a crate, and keep your dog in it until it gets use to seeing the cats. We rescued a dog from the shelter, and she stayed in the crate for a couple weeks. The only attention she got was when we wanted her to have it. Dogs are egotistical things, worse than men or children! If you let them think the universe revolves around them, they will rule. If you show them who is in charge, meaning yourself, then yes, you should be able to train them.
Contact a professional dog trainer! You can find them usually through local pet stores. Good luck!

Not all breeds can be trained this way.
Some breeds simply have a very strong prey drive (i.e. Siberian Huskies), who can grow up for 3 years with a cat, but one day something just clicks when the cat is running somewhere.
It is good to research the dog breed to find out if they can be raised with cats. My Boxer does fantastic with them.

Any dog can be taught not to chase cats, if you catch them early enough. My parents have a beagle and a greyhound-mix dog in the house with their cat, and don't have any problems.
You may have to resort to a crate, if your dog is already chasing your cat. And when he starts to, tell him 'No!' and follow that up with a consequence. And make it stick so he will understand that bothering the cats is not acceptable.
Good luck!

you should have socialized the the dogs to the cats at an early age,but that is too late, try putting the dog in a crate and put the cat in a crate facing each other so they don't hurt each other. or put a choke chain on the dogs and put it high on the neck and when the dog tries to go after the cat give him a firm tug and say "sshhhttt"don't let him get wild and eventually you could go to being able to snap your fingers at him when he goes for the cat.if he doesn't listen put him on his back and lay him there until YOU say he can get up.This tells him you are in control.

All dogs can be trained not to harm cats when you start early. If you have an older dog you may need to call in a professional. Trust me, money well spent.

Yes. Seriously. But if they're already chasing cats, it may not be easy to train them, unless you know what you're doing. And judging from your question, it sounds like you don't know much about training animals, so you'd need help from someone knowledgeable.
