Wow whoever told you that is an idiot.
Eating breakfast is one thing that helps you lose weight or maintain a healthy weight. You bodies metabolism slows when you sleep. Metabolism is what you need to have energy and burn calories. After sleeping your bodies metabolism doesn't pick back up until you eat....which is why you need breakfast.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It gives you the nutrients for you brain and body to function properly. It fills you up and decreases food cravings throughout the day.
Its actually proven that people who eat healthy balanced breakfasts eat less and lose more weight than people who don't.

Actually breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Eating a healthy breakfast will even help you lose weight. When you do not 'break the fast' in the morning your energy levels drop, you metabolism slows and your body converts nutrients into fat instead of burning them, because it thinks you are starving it.
Now don't rush off to IHOP every morning and down pancakes coated with syrup, eggs, bacon, sausage...etc. That's too many calories, unless you are BURNING more calories than you are taking in. Instead eat a health breakfast. One cup of wholegrain cereal, yogurt, or toast, fruit, juice, one egg scrambled...etc
This past month I started eating a health breakfast in the morning after my workout, instead of skipping it. I eat one serving of Wheaties, with skim milk, light yogurt, and a small glass of OJ. I found I wasn't as hungry later in the day, so the tendency to over eat at lunch or snack was greatly reduced. Also my energy levels are up, and I do not feel sluggish in the afternoon. I also lost 8lb in one month.
Still don't beleive me? Read the links below, then set your alarm clock 10min earlier tomorrow and eat a healthy breakfast.

it is my opinion (i am not a doctor) that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. You should burn any calories taken in from a reasonable breakfast throughout the day. Your energy reserves are low when you first get up in the morning so stocking up the energy for the day is important.
I feel that weight is gained by eating (specially carbs and sugars) late in the day and going to bed before your body converts and uses the energy hence it becomes fat.

A healthy breakfast will not hurt your weight. Breakfast is the most imporatant meal of the day, it is where you get your energy from to start off your day. So, protein is important. You may try eating more fruit, fat free milk and only egg whites. Eating a healthy breakfast has proven to shed pounds.

Breakfast doesn't make you gain weight; if anything it could help you lose it. If you eat a bigger breakfast, it starts your metabolism going. Then if you eat a smaller lunch and dinner, food gets used during the day instead of sitting on your stomach at night while you sleep.

Quite to the contrary, you need to eat something as soon as your stomach feels "ready", preferably early in the day. Otherwise, your body's metabolism will slow down to conserve energy, then the slower metabolism will cause you to gain weight. The key is to eat smart. Try fresh fruit, or whole-grain cereal, or a bagel or toast. Losing weight or keeping weight off isn't so much a matter of avoiding food as it is making smart eating choices.

What?
If you don't want to gain weight it's actually important to eat breakfast in the morning. Eating breakfast gives you that boost in the morning to get your metabolism going. If you skip breakfast your metabolism won't be up to par and you won't be losing as many calories as you should.
As long as you eat healthy...I mean obviously if you eat a krispy kreme donut and a batch of bacon every morning you're going to gain weight if you don't keep it in check.

Eating breakfast will probably make you gain less weight. A full breakfast stops you having snacks which cause the extra weight. Not eating breakfast will increase your weight as it makes your diet unbalanced. I hope this helps.

It's actually been argued that it's better to eat breakfast if you're trying to loose weight or just stay healthy. Gets your metabolic rate going.
