Most software companies 'batch' keys. This means that all the disks created in batch #1 (say, 5,000 disks) will work with one group of CD Keys. Others will not. So, the answer is yes and no. A CD Key may work with another copy of the disk, but it also -and most likely, will not.

They are all different to ensure that people are using an original, and not a pirated copy. With online games, the servers often make sure that two people are not using the same key.
