Cats always land on thier feet, and bread always lands buttered side down - so if buttered bread was strapped to the cat's back, it seems the logical result would be her levitating just above the ground if dropped....

This is a misapplication of the law. Buttered bread must end up with the butter on the floor, but it need not be direct. The cat will land on its feet, *then* roll over and smear butter all over the carpet.

O.o
What would give you any idea a cat could fly with a slice of buttered bread strapped to the poor thing's back. How would you like it if I strapped a slice of buttered bread to your back and drop you?If you think anyone would think you are smart asking that question, you've got a problem.

Only if you use "special" butter and the cats name is Butters. Or you travel to the 10th dimension where the laws of gravity don't apply.
