I have naturally curly hair, it is really dry & frizzy. I have tried professionally straightening it before ( like 3/4 times) and it doesnt last longer than 3 days! I straighten it on my own with a hot iron because its easier to style & manage when its straight. Ive tried using mouse, gels, etc. to try and manage it when its curly. Nothing seems to be working...so any suggestions on shampoos, conditioners out there that will seriously help?...also, any certain type of hot iron I should be using, that will really work? The one I have does an OK job but the salon I usually go to has one that gets it straighter than with mine....so...help!!!

You would be surprised at the difference between the cheap shampoos and conditioners and the ones that cost a little bit more. I have naturally curly hair also. Someone screwed up my hair once and I've used the better products ever since. Try Redken All Soft Conditioner, Biolage Shampoo (for color treated hair. A lot of times the color treated shampoos have extra moisturizers), Joico Silk Result conditioner, or Sebastian Laminates conditioner. Also use ceramic tools and brushes. They help protect you hair. Also make sure to keep your hair trimmed regularly. People freak out when I tell them I have naturally curly hair. I take care of it and use my ceramic straightener (section off your hair and straighten small strands at a time and take your time) and it comes out straight and shiny. Make sure to give your hair a few minutes to rest before you go outside. With the heat and humidity lately if you go right outside you will have done all that work for nothing. Trust me!!! :)

First off, the constant barrage of heat is probably what is causing your hair to be really dry and frizzy. You should start by cutting back on your flat iron (I know it's hard, but girl you've got to). mousses and gels also contain alcohol, which is going to dry it out more.

Your hair needs some serous TLC. Deep condition twice a week with a hair mask or oil. Also, only wash your hair every other day so you can build up natural oils to help repair hair. Use leave in conditioners after you shampoo and condition and try small amounts of silicone serums to help control frizz. You may even need to get a lot of the damaged ends cut off.

Use any type of moisturizing shampoo and conditioner and then before you blow dry your hair, use John Frieda Skinny Serum. Work it in and then blow dry, it not only smoothes but cuts down on drying time too. As for your hot iron, go with the Revoln Wet to Dry Straightener...not the 2" though it doesn't do as well as the smaller one. This one ROCKS! Even if your hair is a little moist from drying you can straighten and it works magically. I have the same problem and swear by these to products.

i have the same hair. i hate it sometimes. well i use a leave in conditioner everyday and tie it in a ponytail sometimes. dont brush curly hair. it turns out a mess. i havent brushed my hair for 2 days, but it looks good. some ppl say using frizzease may help. i havent tried it yet. let it be curly. if u want to straighten it, use a flat iron and get ur hair thinned if it isnt already. i tried straightening at home and i have thick hair, so i didnt turn out that good. find a nice hairstyle that will make ur curls look good. also try to deep condition your hair, by putting in conditioner and putting it in a shower cap and blow drying the shower cap for 5-10 minutes. it works for me. hope this helps!

I would get a wet to dry straightener...Revlon makes one that works great. Wash and condition your hair with a shampoo made for frizzie hair, such as SunSilk (super hydrated or simply straight, sold at your local Walmart, Target, K-Mart Etc for $3.00 a bottle.)
Tip: Saturate your ends with the conditioner, and comb through wet hair with a wide toothed comb, then rinse.
Next, towel dry your hair, then comb with wide toothed comb. Use frizz gell on length of your hair, I suggest using the one that matches your sunsilk shampoo and conditioner.
Let dry slightly, till hair is still damp, then use heated straightener on your hair. (make sure that it is a wet to dry straightener)
Use some flexible hold hair spray or finishing spray(even better) that protects from humidity!
I hope you benifit from this!
:)

Here's some tips. Don't use a hot iron. It burns your hair. Use Johnsons Baby Shampoo and Dove Conditioner. If it's still dry, squeeze lemon juice in a small container and while taking a bath don't put shampoo on your hair. Pour the lemon juice on your hair and wash it.

Well, I have type of hair as you. I get a curl but I don't roll it, and my hair is as straight as I could ever dream!!! It's soft and silky, I keep it moisturized as much as I can. Then I can do anything to it that I want. But word of warning: DON'T APPLY ANYTHING HOT TO YOUR HAIR!!! NO FLAT IRONS, NO CURLERS, NOTHING THAT USES HEAT, because then you'll have a very big mess. And trust me..you don't wanna go there.
