My 8 year old Shih Tzu has tapeworms. He does NOT have fleas or anything. I gave him 34 mgs of praziquantel (FDA approved). Is that enough? My friend says I should give him another 15 mgs. Can anyone help me out with this situation? I have never experienced anything like this before. I would greatly appriciate any advise or comments. Thank you.

My dogs have had every worm, except Heartworm. I get th meds form the vet.lt doesnt HAVE to be their vet. I have found other vets in the are that have the same meds for less. Call around. I believe they make all in ones for roundworm, tapeworm, and the rest. I think you might even be able to get them at Pet stores but Im sure its a lower dosage. The thing about tapewormt hough is that it doesnt appear in the feces. They stay close to the anus so if you are seeing worms int he feces, its most likely NOT tapeworm. i would call the vet and take the dog in for an exam. They'll do a fecal exam and within 20 min will tell you the results. Its very important to take care of these issues. They can cause abnormal eating behaviors as well as death if it goes on long enough. Good luck.

I could have sworn a heard about beagles being given a penny to swallow. They will pass the penny but the chemicals on the coin I guess are supposed to react to the worm. Might want to check more into this.

I wouldn't give it anymore. Wait to see if that amount worked. Call the vet, even if they are closed they have pagers or cell phones they use for emergencies.
Your emergency is you are asking the wrong people!!
