But now it's wrong and you are excommunicated if you are?
I've been LDS all my life but there are too many things in my faith that just don't make sense to me. It's seems like there are so many contradictions.
I pray to God when I need to but I don't go to church anymore.

The state of Utah banned polygamy as a way to enter the union, back when there wasn't 50 states yet. I foget which state # they are or year they became a state. That was a major obstacle in becoming a state for Utah. To become a state they were pressured into banning it and now it's frowned upon in the LDS faith due to the fact that young girls were being forced to marry without consent. Mormons still do some really odd things in my opinion due to their faith but I personaly don't care how many wives a man has or how many husbands a woman has for that matter so long as they are able to choose that life for themselves, not be forced.

Honey, I truly wish I could offer an easy answer, but as a former LDS, I know from personal experience that there aren't any easy answers. You are taught one thing as a child, another as a teen and yet another different from the other two as an adult, it's enough to confuse the most faithful and is why I left the church. However I'm NOT advising you to that unless it what your hearts leads you to do, God leads us through our hearts and it, nor he, ever lie. I can answer the polygamy question, it was began by the LDS Creator Joseph Smith and when Brigham Young was voted Church President HE did away with that practice, angered, Joseph Smith and his family broke away from the very church he created and formed the reorganized church. God bless and keep you always, listen to your heart, the answer to your prayers lay there.

Because it was needed at the time. And its not needed today. I'm a convert to the faith and I've learned that there are so many things in this world that we will never understand. Only God knows. It's like when something bad happens in your life and you can't for the life of you see why God would allow such a thing to happen. And then 10 years go by and something happens that is good or happy as a result of the bad thing. Then you understand that it was all meant to be. I've prayed many times and have researched the scriptures and my heart to know answers to things in this faith. But I know that everything happens for a reason. I hope you'll go back to church. I stopped going for a while and I felt the spirit leave me. I needed to go to show my faith to Him. Give it a try. :)

The reason it was OK years ago is simply because it was a commandment from God. Why did God make it OK? I don't know, I do not know his full purposes for all of his commandments and revelations. I just follow them. If President Hinkley revealed tomorrow that we couldn't drink fruit juice anymore or drive a blue car or mow our lawn, I would follow and not question why because I would know it was out of the mouth of the Prophet of God as if God himself had said it.

I suggest praying about it, you should be familiar with the process of search, ponder, and pray. Do your studying, meditate over it a bit, and ask Heavenly Father. He'll be able to explain it to you better than anybody on this forum:)

Best Wishes

The Religion that NEVER Changes did a quick switch in thinking when they got word that Washington DC was coming down on them. NOW each Man has but one wife, he he, but has A TEMPLE WIFE as well to make it LEGAL and the guy can still get to his PLANET to copulate and populate and thus become the god of his planet.

(I am very surprised that so many non Mormons get upset when I mention a man becoming a god of a planet1)

It is a stone-age ideal, set up by a male-dominated religion. It is an excuse for old men to be married to child brides, while the governement foots the bill. I've lived in Utah my entire life..and I am sick of paying for the products of polygamy with my tax dollars.

It had to do with when utah wanted state hood. For utah to be granted state hood they had to outlaw polygamy and since utah was entirely lds at the time lds had to discourage polygamy and make it not ok.

I think it's because people have been taking advantage of it with all the marrying of girls that are way too young.
