I'll be staying at the Marriott Waikiki Beach for two days pre-cruise. We are renting a car upon our return from our cruise, but for the pre-cruise, will just be staying in Waikiki and I'd prefer not to deal with a rental car in Waikiki (anyone who's been there knows why.) Is it feasible to walk to Diamond Head from there? Just wondering if that's possible. Any highways involved? Thanks in advance!

Yes you can walk..but it's a long walk..a lot longer than you might at first think....there are no real highways to worry about..you might want to carry some water with you..But I was just there about 2 months ago and they have an excellent public bus company ---it's about $2 to go anywhere on the island (I think)..and it's called DaBus..if you just google in da bus honolulu..you'll find it....enjoy

Another way you could get to Diamond Head is to catch the bus from Waikiki to the base of Diamond Head. It's 2 bucks per adult and 1 buck per kid. The buses that runs that route is the 22 and 58, but be aware, these buses runs about once every half an hour. You get off at the Kapiolani Community college or the Diamond Head bus stop and get on across the street from the entrance of the park. Be aware of Taxi drivers trying to solicit business by approaching the bus stop and saying that the bus doesn't run that often. It's up to you to take or leave it, but just a warning. An important tip: THE NUMBER 3 BUS DOES NOT TAKE YOU TO WAIKIKI. I have seen countless tourists (I used to ride the 3 daily a couple years ago) get on the bus and then about 20 minutes later realize that they're going to Downtown instead of Waikiki.

Also, the visitor pass from ABC is a great deal if you're going to use the bus a lot. if not, use the transfers when possible to return back.

Bus To Diamond Head

Absolutely! You will travel by surface streets. See map attached. It is 2.4 miles each way. There are alot of great things to see and do along the way as well. As you are walking to Diamond Head the Honolulu Zoo, Kodak Hula Show, Bandstand and Kapiolani Park are just a few things you can enjoy along the way. On the way back to your hotel, you can go around the backside of Diamond Head Road and stop for shaved ice (snow cone), or a local style plate lunch or sandwich, a beautiful rose garden called the Queen Emma Garden, stroll along the Ala Wai canal and be shaded by the high rises and feel the cool breeze off the ocean. Enjoy your stay...Aloha!

Sure you can walk it. It's only about a mile and a half, at the most two from the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach Hotel (our home away from home on Oahu)! Great way to see some sites.~~Aloha~~

In Honolulu you'll find every thing from historical landmarks and valued monuments to world-class shopping and a flourishing arts and culture scene. Home to nearly all Oahu's population, the vast town of Honolulu spreads through the entire south-eastern shores of Oahu, from Pearl Harbor to Makapuu Point, encompassing earth famous Waikiki. Pearl Harbor is one of Honolulu's biggest tourist attractions. Although it is home to the Navy's Pacific Fleet, readers may take a visit to begin to see the USS Arizona Memorial, and the USS Missouri.

Yes, if you're in decent shape. It's a good hike (like 4-5 miles each way) but well worth the trip.
