Margarine has trans fats which the government says there is no safe level of trans fat.Trans fat are found in all food which contain partially hydrogenated oil or vegetable shortening.
Butter has saturated fat which the government has set a safe level for which you can eat in a day.
When you see a label that says " no trans fat" you still need to read the ingredients to make sure it contains no partially hydrogenated oil or vegetable shortening. It seems as long as there is less than .5 grams per serving they are allowed to say they have no trans fat.Alas since the government says there is no safe level, then I do not buy food with any amount what so ever.
Always check the ingredients.

Well i have no proof but i do know that soy which is in margarine hasn't been around for that long, it's suppose to be great for you...but is it? Butter is made from milk which comes from cows which is totaly natural & it's good fats that you get from butter not bad fats, just don't use a pound of it on your toast. I only use butter never margarine, it's tasteless.

Read about trans fat, which margarine contains. It is also known as partially hydrogenated vegetable oil, and it structurally different than unsaturated fat. It's makeup is such that it is worse for our bodies than lard.
What's this about margarine differing only by one molecule from plastic? Big deal. Water is molecularly similar to nitrous oxide but nobody seems to think that is a big deal.
