listen to belate.he hit the nail right on the head. If you ever have to change the heads let a pro or good mech do it. you would need a torque wrench to start and if the gaskets are not put on right it can cause more problems. And a BIG NO on the additives.

Don't do anything. It is normal for the engine to push extra
coolant into the overflow. You are probably overfilling the
radiator when it's cool. The coolant expands and into the
overflow it goes. As long as there is no mixing there is no leak
internally, as you have said you're not missing any coolant.
The overflow is supposed to refill the radiator as it cools.
Don't pour any miracle cures into the coolant. When you fill
the radiator, make sure you leave the level down maybe
2". Sounds to me like there is nothing wrong at all. Hope that helps you.

There can be other reasons a radiator blows into the overflow and won't suck it back. Try checking for leaks in the return hose connection. Also sometimes a defective radiator cap will do this. If a head is really cracked it will show contant foaming or bubbles appearing in the radiator with cap removed. Be careful taking off the cap , you can get burned etc.

Sounds like a blown head gasket to me. It's not hard to remove the heads. If you do, take them to a machine shop and have them checked for cracks. ***replace the head bolts*** the stock bolts are not reusable. Get a book on how to rebuild small block Fords it will have all the info you need to do the job properly.

Have you swapped the hoses first? Or even change the thermostat? I'd be doing those things first before getting into that supposed project. How about your cooling fan, does it spin ok, or does it stick and stuff. And what about the radiator, it isn' clogged up is it? Anwer these first, then get back with me.

I'd change the thermostat before I removed the heads. It's cheaper and easier and might fix it.
