What do you do when someone tries to kill themselves in front of you?

If someone tries to commit suicide in front of another person, they are NOT really wanting to die, instead they are making a cry for help in the only way they know how. If this person is a close relative, please make certain he/she gets into a treatment program ASAP. God bless and help you both.

With very few exceptions, I try to stop them.

Then I call the police or whoever is nearby to help me prevent
them from doing it again.

Ultimately, somebody doing this will probably end up in
a mental hospital for a little while (evaluation).

I'm not sure what I would do if someone who was terminal and
in incredible pain and wanted to die tried to commit suicide
in front of me.

I guess I'd ask them every 6 ways to Sunday if they were
sure, and if so, I'd try to make them comfortable.

call 911 if they really try
or if they say they are going to but do not follow thru they are probably just trying to get attention. Do not step into this as "I gotta be their friend or they will kill themselves" it is not worth it They are needy and will wear you out with what they want and need and they will not put your feelings or cares into it.

Call 911 or take them to the nearest ER. Be there to support them. You also need help to get over the trauma of what you witnessed, especially if it was a friend or family member.

wow thats shocking! well if i were you i would call 911 if it was someone you no confront them and tell then they need to find help if u dont no them just watch them until the cops are ambulance arrives

If they are younger, as in teen or 20's, their parents/family really needs to know, they need the proper help!
