There is a tiny little lemon-fairy that comes all the way down from the North pole at certain times each day and sprinkles her loving magic on specially marked spots for good little girls and boys to find. If you happen to be such a luckyperson, and you've been especially good, then with just a tiny bit of magic and a dream, you might be able to find one of these special "lemon" spots and sample the magic for yourself! In some cases the surrounding area, i.e. frozen vegetation and dirt mix with snow and causes a yellowing effect.
Then there is the classic piss in the snow but everyone likes that answer.

Well, late at night, little magical elfs come out and pee in the snow, they try to cover it up so no one can figure out they excist, but sometimes they forget some spots!
