Not a bad idea at all. If you buy real estate there now, you will have something to come back to when you move there (assuming "later on" being later in life, right?). And right now, real estate in Greece is not expensive for European standards. Friends of mine are from there and go back a lot, others are from here and have place there. It's absolutely amazing there, but you know that. Language isn't much of an issue, there are so many expats living there, and with tourism being the mainstay, you wouldn't really have to be that good at Greek to get by. Everybody speaks some foreign language there, maybe one you speak, too. Don't expect too much there in terms of earnings, it can be meagre, but that's why the houses are cheap. And it is one of the cheapest and safest places in the world (crime rates look like something from a statistic 300 years ago in the middle of nowhere).

I don't know, if you're used to a comfortable life in the United States/Canada I wouldn't suggest it. Life is a lot different there, and there are alot of small things that you will need to get used to. The people are generally friendly and the landscape/history is beautiful, but another language is a tough barrier to overcome.

You have to visit a country if you plan to move there. Moving to another continent is a costly and time-sucking venture. Getting all the proper paperwork and moving everything over there. Then you have to find a job, which won't be top notch unless you have a good education prior to moving and a command of the language.

I you should really think about it before you move. Visit the region and figure out what you like, what region/town/city you want to move to. Athens is so huge, but very unclean in comparison to all American cities and run down in many parts.

I just came back from there and LOVED it! Athens was extremely clean and friendly.
