the plate numbers that i request are summarily rejected without any direction and i would rather select from the existing list.

You can't get that online. Check with the county BMV

I live in IL myself. Try checking the Secretary of State's website. I think it's cyberdriveillinois.com -I haven't checked, but you may find links to what you seek there. It's a start anyway.

Otherwise, I don't know that there is an actual list. Basically they go from the standpoint of you making the request, then doing the checking to see if it's available. It might only be accessible through their internal system for security reasons. You could go to the Driver's Service facilty in your area and ask if they will make a printout of plates matching your criteria, etc.

Ca DMV has a web site where you can check vanity plates. Maybe IL does too, try
