I think that you should follow the etiquette of the place/country you are in each time. So if the titled person is in America, my opinion is that you should not have to address them by title. However, if you go to their country, I think you should address them by title if that's the local etiquette.

Most of us aren't ever going to have to worry about this, since we won't be coming in contact with any kind of nobility any time soon.
But, Americans create their own kind of nobility...in the 60s it was the Kennedys. We treat entertainers today as a kind of nobility...which is really stupid, since most actors, singers, and whathaveyou aren't nicer, kinder people than anyone else...they just are in the public eye and have more money. And it certainly gives them a warped, overimflated sense of how important they are.
But to answer your question, I think the old saying "If you want respect, you have to show respect" applies here. So yes, a duke, prince or whathave you should be addressed that way, and hopefully you'll get "royal treatment" in return.

Americans believe in titles of nobility, we just don't use them the way other countries do. Like that person said before, we call the queen of England "Queen Elizabeth", even though she's not OUR queen.
Same goes for people with advanced education.. we refer to our physicians and dentists as "Dr. Smith" or "Dr. Jones"... out of respect for the time and effort they put into earning that degree.
And just for the record... I disagree with Terry Miller. If I saw George Bush on the street, I definitely would NOT call him "President Bush"...I reserve that title for people who are worthy of it.. for people who DON'T suck at life. I think "dubya" is probably the best he'd get out of me.
Yeah, gotta love freedom of speech.

Who says that Americans don't believe in titles of nobility? There is a queen of England - that is a fact. I have to believe that. She may not be my queen, but she is the queen of England. I think it's only polite to refer to her by her title. If I saw my president, I would refer to him as President Bush, not GW.

a million. those style of persons are actual providing to promote you is a substitute of brand call with the help of deed poll, so as that "Lord" could change into your new first call. It would not be a identify, any more effective than the "Duke" in Duke Ellington is a identify. on condition that you'll substitute your call your self with the help of merely writing out your purpose to finish that and getting a chum to signal and witness it (see the link) and any abode printer can produce a certificate searching as reliable if no more effective acceptable than that, you'll could be a prize sucker to pay them their asking value. it truly is criminal - the sellers are best that lower than English regulation you could call your self something you go with, presented that's not fraudulent (or obscene, or some different issues). and obviously, when you've formally replaced your call to "Lord Dillon Hopelessly-Gullible" you could, certainly you're able to, positioned that on your passport and driving force's licence and different criminal information, with the aid of the undeniable fact that is now your call. (Why end at "Lord"? Why no longer substitute your call to "Saint Dillon Hopelessly-Gullible"? Or "Pope" or "King"? they could be merely as criminal.) You ask "will it artwork"? nicely, it can artwork contained in the experience that you've actual replaced your criminal call, even besides the undeniable fact that you've spent an fullyyt unnecessary volume of money doing it. What it don't have carried out is made you a lord - you'll merely be some guy whose call replaced into "Lord". in case you needed human beings to believe you've been a real lord you're able to, as well, ought to do a large type of mendacity. or maybe then, except you're a experienced liar no longer a lot of human beings could be fooled.

As it becomes more a matter of diplomatic respect I believe they should and would. In countries that don't believe in the concept of presidency, they will still refer to the current USA president as President Bush and not call him " Hey George" or " Oi! Bush!" Its all a matter of respect... otherwise, if any noble or high rank official gets ticked off who knows where war will erupt next. Lol... ok bad joke
Another example, non-catholics also refer to Mother Teresa as Mother... I think very few americans or others will call her Nun Teresa.

Yes. You should show respect for, and abide by another person's culture and customs, if they are visiting this country or you are visiting theirs. The only time I think this is an exception would be if they have permanently moved to the USA, then it would be a toss up- you'd say it just for the sake of nicety, but I'd consider them to have given up that status if getting citizenship in another country.

Yes;it's common courtesy. You call people by the name that they wish to be called. In America,we may not have Royalty, but other countries do.We show our repect to others by calling them by their chosen titles. Some visiting nobility may even ask you to just call them by their given name;it's all up to that particular person.

If they're polite they do. I doubt that even GWB calls Queen Elizabeth II "Queenie Baby" or "Liz" or the Pope "Herr Joey."
(But you'll notice that the President NEVER bows or kneels to royalty...that would be sacrilegious to Americans.)
