Fluorescein dye is supposed to be completely water soluble, but certain carpet fibers may have an unusual affinity for it. The usual recommendation is that if you're not sure, test in an inconspicuous area first.

Unless you got that dye from the vet i would strongly advise you not to give any to the cat, it may be dangerous. Can't you use other methods, like putting one cat into a kennals for a day or indeed splitting them up. If there is a problem with one take it to the vet, it may be something like an infection that is causing the problem in the first place.

As for the carpet, its a dye, it'll probably dye it.

I don't understand -- if there are two or more cats how would the dye help you know which one had the problem?

I have three cats in the front of the house at night. Two in the bedroom. I put one of the three in the big bathroom with a bed, water, etc. That way I was able to discover who had the problem. It had to be one of two cats so I only had to confine one. Course you have to pick the one to confine. Fortunately the confined cat did not protest and keep me awake all night.

I have no clue - but the dye might also poison the cat. I'd try splitting the two cats into two rooms for the day and see who pees.
It took us a few days to realize it was our female cat peeing all over the house. I wish we would have split them up sooner to find the culprit!

I wouldnt give the cat the dye, that could kill her, possibly! Why would u risk that?? And um.... YES the dye will hurt your carpet.... its DYE!! I suggest separateing her, in a certain area. And if it is her, maybe she has a urinary track infection. Is she fixed?? My first cat peed on things, before she gotten fixed. It has been 7 years. Since she has been fixed she hasnt done it once. Maybe you should talk to your vet.

This is sick. If there's only one cat can't you figure it out?

Why don't you take it and try peeing on sample carpet?

Don't waste the time of good people who are trying to be helpful - their efforts are better put elsewhere....
