I know when you have your first child, it must be so wonderful to look into his/her eyes. That bond is TIGHT i'm sure. But at some point or another, i'm sure that "honeymoon" period ends. About how long did it take for you?

5 children...2 more on the way...you never get used to your child. You never get used to being a parent.

One path immediately leads to another. When you no longer have a newborn, you've got a crawler that gets into everything. Then a walker. Then a toddler. And a potty trainer. And a school ager. And before you know it - you're trying to figure out teenage hormones and how to cope with all that stuff. Then it's high school woes. And then they're off to college and adult problems.

All you can do is, be the best parent you can be. Because every new day is exactly that - a new day. And if you love your children, the honeymoon never ends. And every day is a blessed day.

Probably a lot of parents would say the "honeymoon" was over about 4-6 days into it when there has been little to no sleep.
As for getting used to a newborn - I don't think you really ever do. Newborns quickly change into babies; babies into toddlers; toddlers into preschoolers. Each and every phase is delightful, unique, and filled with changes. The whole thing (parenting) is an evolving process - both good and bad, at times. But, as a mom who survived, and now is hopelessly in love with her grandson, I can tell you------it IS all worth it!

A baby is a huge adjustment for anyone. With my first child it took me at least a couple months to really get used to the fact that this baby depended on me for everything. Of course each person is different. I don't like change in routine so it took me longer. I was also a young and single mother due to the fact that my bf took off after I got pregnant. Now we are back together and have another little bundle of joy. It only took me a couple of weeks to get bonded and into a wonderful routine with her. If bonding takes too long or you feel you don't love your baby you should see a professional.

Actually, I had it the other way around - I had C-section (I don't know, maybe that had something to do with that) and my baby seemed like a stranger to me when I first saw her. It took me few days to start falling in love with her, but than it just seemed getting stronger. She's three now and it's wonderfull..:-))

The very first day of school. I bawled and tried to deal with him learning the first steps to his independance. (Going from MOMMY to MOM was not a happy time either.)

if i am honest, although i love jack with ALL of my heart, i never felt that instant connection with him... i have always felt slightly on the outside, and know that he is almost a year old, and wants to spend more time with his dad than with me, its becoming more painful, but i live in hope that it will just all click into place for me...

I guess Im not really sure what you mean. I enjoyed every minute of raising my kids and now they are grown and have families of their own, I am still enjoying them. Children are the most wonderful gift God can give us.
