i agree completely. when you go to any country, the culture is going to be different, but you need to adapt to their culture in a way you see fit. that doesn't mean give up what you believe or your values; it means experience a different culture but don't give up yours.

and to moi, you say mostly Muslims preach how you should live like us...please cite one instance. thank you.

I dont think westerners do always complain. If I was going to any country in the world I would respect their culture and follow the basic rules (i dont agree with stoning people and capital punishment, so cant possibly follow that rule). If drinking was offensive then you dont do it, if eating pork is offensive then you dont do it, in the same way as in a country such as china, if they give you a banquet then you eat it - chicken claws?? - gag - yum yum. Its respectful.

I think what pisses westerners off is the preaching of muslims (mostly) saying what we are doing is wrong and how we should live like them etc etc. Should they not respect our culture and let us live our lives as we are used to and not bang on about how wrong we are, how right they are, and preaching hatred about things like 9/11 and 7/7 being acceptable?

If it happens over in muslim countries its not acceptable either. And before anyone mentions Iraq, Isreal and Afganistan, I think we should pull our troops out of the first and last and I really think that something should be done about the middle one. Its disgusting.

There.

I think it's called "venting".

I'm sure many Muslims here in the west secretly despise not being able to legally stone-to-death a woman who cheats on her husband, or a homosexual, or someone who leaves Islam.

I can see how it would be frustrating for a westerner in an Islamic country to be forbidden to have a drink or two, while people are smoking hashish from hookas all around them.

When it comes down to it, no one is forcing them to go to the Islamic country. If it really bothers them that much, they should stay here in the west, where freedom is the rule rather than the exception.

Peace!

Coz muslims come here and force their rules on us, who was threatening to blow 9 or 10 planes full of innocent people to oblivion, nobody has the right to do that, i am going on a plane in 2 weeks time, why would someone want to hurt me and my 13 year old son, i have met a lot of muslims and they have been good people, but at the risk of sounding racist, if you go to live in another country, keep your religion and beliefs, but please do not force them on other people, this is what causes all the trouble, respect the laws and the people and maybe we can all get on with each other, then we would all see a miracle

only a total idiot would go to another country and then offend its population by not following the rules. and that includes visitors to the west. Break the rules u end up in jail. Tourists go to the Middle East, but mostly to Saudi, but that is a more open society than the rest of it although drinking and voting for women is outlawed. But they do get free health care. If you go to an Islamic State then you are a fool not to respect their laws - after all you have placed yourself there willingly. If I invite u to my home I will ask you to take off your shoes. I will also expect you not to drink or swear in front of my children. I will be offended if you put sugar in porridge. I expect you to be fully dressed in the house and not walk about naked or in underwear/bikini. If you dont like those conditions then it is your choice to decline to visit.

They don`t always complain, when I have visited a predominately muslim country I have always been treated with the utmost respect.
Show respect and receive respect, seems to work for me.

Why all the nutters on both sides should try and confuse the issue I will never know, I guess they all rely on third party information.

I have no problem at all living by local rules and customs when I go overseas, as I regularly do in conjunction with my job.
But I DO have a problem with Muslims who come to the West and then declare me to be "immoral" because I live by Western values; such as having respect for women, practicing free speech, and not allowing them to impose sharia in my country.
I've worked with many Muslims in the US who keep their own culture to the extent that they can, but want to fit in. Why do the fanatics come to MY country then insist that I change?!

Why do you call us westerners? The world is round. How do you know who lives in the west and who lives in the east?

If I'm not a Muslim (which is a religious belief), why should I act like a Muslim? If you came to America, would you want me to make you act like a Christian (which is the predominant religious choice in the US)? Would you worship our Lord in His church? We have different beliefs. I belief you should abide by your beliefs and I should abide by mine. That doesn't mean we can't get along.

Why is it that when Muslims are here in our country its the same rule....we must cater to them and put our religion on ice so as not to offend.

They get their cake and eat it too...

I've never been to a Muslim country and never plan on going. so you can't count me in on the complaints. I don't believe that they should lose their values. I mean you can't change everybody. people will believe what they want to believe. besides, why do you care? what's this got to do with religion/spirtuality anyway?

for the person who mentioned the dumb Americans, I'm not one of them so you can't generally classify us as being "dumb".

fine!!
