I try to keep it simple. I always give my name and maybe a few interesting facts about myself. I usually end with something like "hope to hear from you soon." It seems to work pretty well.

When I first emailed my partner I think I said something pretty casual like:
"Hi, I was looking at your profile and I think we could get on pretty well. I'm not going to say a lot here because it's all on my profile - have a look and then if you want to get in touch I'd really like to hear from you."
Well we're getting married in January so it obviously made a good impression! Good luck!
