I think you should do both. I'd go to cosmetology first. That way you can make a living while you go to school for design.

I'm a cosmetologist and have been for over 20 years. I did have other interests and worked in different jobs a few times over the years, but I always maintained my license and I never had a time that I wasn't earning extra money on the side doing hair for people. I worked in an office doing clerical work, and always kept a comb and scissors and all that in my drawer and I would do haircuts for people in the bathroom! It's something you can always fall back on - and you can save a lot of money when you get married and have kids by doing their hair instead of paying someone else to. One thing I would advise against is doing free hair services for people because they will always expect it to be free. I opened my own salon (added on to my house and work at home - another plus) and some of my family really don't want to pay me now because it was always free before. I think if I were you I would go ahead and get my Cosmetology license and then persue the interior designing later. I live in TN and we only have to have 1500 hours - so the laws vary from state to state. I'd be happy to share more with you by e-mail if you want. Good luck!

Which one do you want to do?..I went to school for Cosmetology and it takes 1800 hours (10 months) to complete cosmetology that is if they haven't extended the hours..and if you want to manage a beauty shop you have the other 2 months to do so and take the management course.
So you looking at 1 year total for cosmetology..I don'tknow anything about interior designing, and how long it takes.

Do them both, go to Cosmetology school it just takes 12 months. That way you can cut your way through decorating school and you will always have your license for hair.
