do some research on smoking related health problems.

be honest and tell your dad you are worried about his health...show him the statistics then tell him you want him to be able to live a long and healthy life (so you can both enjoy each others' company and he will be around to spend time with his future grandchildren).

Tell him your feelings and ask him to try and quit smoking for you. Show him a picture of a damaged lung if that doesn't help and tell him the health problems that he will have to face in the future. Good luck.

I think it is great that you care enough about your Dad to want to say something to him. That is very adult of you. 2nd let him know tht it not only hurt him but the others in the house. You may want to check out the American Cancer Society website for ideas. The great American Smoke out is in November, that could maybe a start for him. Most of all be honest with him.

Come in the room, sit down, get out a cig and light up. When your dad starts giving you the lecture, say 'My sentiments exactly! What you're doing is killing yourself and hurting me.' Then explain to your father why his smoking bothers you and the long term health affects it will cause him.

I've got the same problem with my dad. He ended up quitting for a short period but then started back up. When I found the pack of cigarrettes, I confronted him about it and told him how damaging it is for him. I was upset, believe me, and he saw this. So after seeing me so dissappointed, he finally told me he would try his hardest to quit again.
Just tell your dad exactly what you told us. A father can't ignore his child's disapointment (not saying that in a selfish manner either); so, hopefully it'll get through to him. Best wishes to you!

Addiction it tobacco is worse than addiction to Heroin, and very difficult to stop/....however you are getting second smoke into your lungs.........get a court order that forbids him to smoke in the house or car or within 50 feet of you outside.....a lot of children are doing that now and it is helping their parents quit.

You have right as a non smoker no matter what age you are......you must smell awful too.........talk to him, and then take actions. He will love you for it.

I share the same problem. For me, it's almost impossible. A strategy that I think might work, which i haven't tried yet, is getting anrgry and calling him lazy to quit. Because it's true. Try to make a deal with him, like pay for something.

Simple. Tell him that you want him alive for when his grandchildren come to see him, and not a tombstone. If he wants to be able to play with his grandchildren (run around and stuff), he needs to quit smoking now.
